  • New Year, same old garbage...how does Peterson still have a job?

It's the first week of April and I feel like I am watching the last 2 months of last season unfold in some sort of sick and twisted replay.

Starter doesn't go deep, turns it over to the pen, who can't keep them in it and (insert name here) gives up a bomb.

Sadly, this isn't going to get any better anytime soon, and everyone can praise Omar for dealing for Santana, but he he did less than nothing to shore up a crappy bullpen, nor did he do anything to address the back of the rotation. Of course as long as Peterson is here, it doesn't matter who the hell he brings in.

He has his job because he's an amazing coach/teacher. It will get better.

      1) You can come in off the balcony. The word is not ending because we lost a single game to the Braves.

      2) Why blame it on Peterson? Because he's there? Why not Willie or Guy Conti or any of the other guys interacting with the relievers? This one's mere curiosity more than anything else.

      3) More importantly, we are four games into the season. FOUR. We have 158 games left to play. In the first game, Johan Santana went more than 5 innings. In the second game, Pedro Martinez strained his hamstring. The bullpen allowed I believe three or four hits afterward before Matt Wise hung a changeup. Final score 5-4. I'm sure the lineup failing to hit was also Peterson's fault. Then Oliver Perez went 6 innings with a mounting pitch count. Then three relievers came in and pitched fine. Then John Maine didn't have his best stuff today and had to be taken out. Joe Smith had a rocky outing, Scott Schoeneweis pitched fine, and then Jorge Sosa melted down with 2 outs (with Pedro Feliciano warming up in the 'pen but not ready...usually, on rainy and somewhat cold days, it takes virtually any pitcher a longer time to warm up than usual). And did I mention we have 158 games left in the season? If this happens seven or eight more times in a row, by all means get back to me. Instead, it has thus far happened ONCE. O-N-C-E ONCE. Also...funny, I think I've seen this IP address before of the original poster...the names "Jose Morales," "Nick Blackburn," and "Bobby Korecky" seem to be showing up on my magic crystal ball...

Nah, he has his job because the Wilpons are enchanted with him. But remember, these are the same people that hired Steve Phillips.

        It will get better.
Yes, yes. This is true. He can't stay forever.

"But remember, these are the same people that hired Steve Phillips."

Wrong. Phillips' hiring was Nelson Doubleday's idea. If you want to blame the Wilpons for hiring a moron, go the Jim Duquette route. Of course, you can also go the Omar Minaya route, since he was also a Wilpon hiring.

"Yes, yes. This is true. He can't stay forever."

            Mind backing up your sarcasm?

            "Yes."

Are you actually serious or is this sarcasm without emoticons?

I'm as happy with today's loss as much as you. However, one game is not enough to cost him his job. It's not his fault Maine did not pitch well and the pen (which I believe was not managed well today) didn't do well.

This kind of game happens to every team. The Mets were on the other end of it against the Marlins on Thursday.

Umm, excuse me, EXCUSE ME ! Aren't you the same person that just exploded in another thread that it took Willie all of 4 games to ruin the entire team ?

OMG - this is too funny !!

Nothing. However, you I'm pointing out to you Peterson being a Wilpon hiring as evidence of him somehow being bad doesn't work...

                    "Oh, I'm serious alright."

Then mind backing up your opinion as opposed to just saying the guy sucks?

We're talking about Rick Peterson, not Willie Randolph who I still believe should have been fired last year. And I said screw up using the bullpen, not ruin the entire team. And my comment was far from an explosion.

I don't believe I ever used the word 'sucks'. Didn't we just have most of this discussion last night ?

                        1) Odalis Perez
                        2) Bartolo Colon is throwing consistently in the low '90's, occasionally hitting 96 on the gun. Yup, something is wrong with his arm.
                        3) Royce Ring is not a stupid, uncoachable fat guy. He's a lefty with nasty stuff
                        4) Yes, he WAS responsible for Kasmir. quote"he doesn't have big league stuff"
                        4) wait ... here it comes ... - "I can fix him in 10 minutes"
                        5) do we really have to do this - can't we all just get along ?

Look D, I don't like him, ok ? I know you do, and that's great for you (not the pitchers),(just kidding).
So do we really need to rehash these (and more !) nuggets after every game the Mets lose ?(because of Peterson, of course)(kidding again).

                            You did, I stand corrected.
None the less, certianly you see the humor in offering calming words and reassurance that the season just started here concerning peterson and yet in the game thread you appear to be, what I assume is, mid-season "Fire Willie" form. That my friend, is funny.

My post in the game thread was just me venting my annoyance. You're making it out to be a 5 page rant on why the entire team sucks.
