Although it doesn't help now. I'm hoping they make a major effort to get Texiera in the off season.

      I agree with that.

None of those 3 are going to cut it. The 1B solution will not be solved from within the organization.

"The 1B solution will not be solved from within the organization."

I ultimately disagree with this as the Mets have worked very hard with Mike Carp regarding hitting lefties, but it's not an immediate fix (which IMO is needed) and Carp is at least a year away.

I'm speaking more about 2008 specifically than 2009 and beyond.

Oh, gotcha. I just brought that up because I see we have people putting up stuff like signing Mark Teixeira, which is obviously not a solution for this year.

                2 thinks:

                1. Why do we have two threads with the (almost) same topic? I'm talking about the "The Delgado Situation - What Should The Mets Do ?"-thread and this one.
                2. As long as we don't promote mike carp, we should let Pagan play at first, because for now we should use his bat in the lineup.
                sorry for some grammar mistakes

I did begin my comment with "although it doesn't help now".

May I add, it's also an urgent concern !

(in fact there's 3, if you include 'Alou at 1b ?')

                          And it goes to eleven.

I'd pick someone else - that Pujols guy from StL =)

But seriously, Easley and Anderson are not options.

Shall we see if the Pirates still want to trade Nady back?

Alou has an ankle injury now.

Tex is going to be the prized 1st baseman in this years coming free agency class...in a year that several big market teams will be needing a good all-star quality 1st baseman...though dont forget, he is represented by Scot Boras.

I really dont see us being able to resign him...although we need him...desperately. He will make a great acquisition for any large market team at the 1st bag (he will be 29 next season)...both offensively and defensively.

The Braves will make him an offer...but at a supposed "hometown discount"...its not HIS hometown though...its his wifes.

I know the Mets will be a contender for his services, but after you buy out Delgados contract next season...(counting this season) you will be into him for about 20 million. Aside from that, 20 million per season may just be a starting point for Tex as he will command upwards of a 5 year guaranteed contract.

Your biggest competition is not going to come from Atlanta, but from your crosstown rivals....and another team that resides about 220 miles northeast of you.

The Yankees, Red Sox, "Mets", Mariners, ...and possibly even the Dodgers or Angels may be interested in throwing huge dollars at him.

If you guys sign Tex next year then, ...well hell, ...its pretty much over.
