Which Mets do you feel deserve and/or will be on the All-Star team in YS ?

  • #2
    My picks -

    Deserve to go, so far:
John Maine - this year he will not be denied.
Johan Santana - the NL's newest big star.
Billy Wagner - so far, a tremendous season.
Ryan Church - having a breakout season, would be a good reserve pick.

Sure to be voted to start:
David Wright - is one of the NL's biggest stars. He'll be an all-star for many, many, years.
Carlos Beltran - having a horrible season to date. Still the cream of the CF crop.

Will not be on the team:
Jose Reyes - Jose is headed in the wrong direction. It seems like a long time ago he was hailed as the 'most exciting player in baseball'. Rollings will start, Hanley Ramirez will be the reserve.

He's my sleeper pick to be a starter.

John was robbed of a spot last year on the NL roster. That was bogus.

And the youngest curmudgeon ever chimes in:

I wish it would be nobody. I think the All-Star game is a meaningless exhibition...made more unnecessary by the advent of inter-league play (boo to that to).

The fact that an exhibition game determines home field advantage for the all-star game (to somehow make it "meaningful") is a joke.

If they insist on playing it, it should be after the season.

That being said...it will be Santana, Wright and more than likely Beltran with Reyes having an outside chance of getting elected (because fans in other cities who vote on this travesty generally don't have a clue about how the players they vote for are actually doing).

I'd rather the players on my favorite team prepare for the season rather than worry about a useless popularity contest.

Aside from Santana no Met will be "selected" by Clint Hurdle.

As opposed to the gravity and import of baseball itself ?

Boy, you must be a barrel of laughs at dinner parties.

The beauty of the internet. I can give voice to my true feelings while maintaining my anonymity. I can hold my own in polite society or in public, thanks.

Baseball is entertainment to be sure; but from the sport side of the equation - if the goal of playing is a successful (ie. winning) season than anything that takes away from this or puts assets dedicated to it to another use is superfluous.

I can understand why the All-star game originated...Depression..put fans in the seats...give fans a change to see the best players in the other league (although this argument is somewhat specious as 5 cities had 11 of the 16 teams and those fans could easily see games in both leagues in they wanted to). I just think as presently arranged it is a silly outdated concept .(each team must have a representative, what is this little league?)

I don't have any "memories" of the all-star game aside from Bud's infamous tie or reading about Ray Fosse in the '70 game. Never paid attention, never cared about it.

Aside from the givens, would be nice to see Churchy and the Maine man getting a go. Starting's a bit optimistic, especially for Maine, but they both have a chance.

                Deserve(as of now)
                Ryan Church
                John Maine
                Johan Santana
                Billy Wagner

Who will ultimately will be on the team
David Wright..although i believe he will break out soon enough and be on the deservd list
                Carlos Beltran...see above

I also think Jose reyes will somehow manage to be on the team..he has a lot of fan support in ny and that might put him on..with jroll the reserve.

I personally would really really really really love to see church on the team.
