Pedro to put control, toe to the test
New York Mets (5-1) at Washington (2-6) 7:05 p.m.
By Marty Noble / MLB.com
It is rather amazing how quickly Pedro Martinez's toe has become a non-issue -- a non-issue of tissue. He seems fine. Not that he would tell the world if the problematic large toe on his right foot -- his push-off foot -- ached.
But the special, modified shoes have worked. And so has he.
His second start -- Wednesday in Washington, D.C. -- has little to do with his foot, but rather his intent and how the Nationals will react to whatever he does.
One person on the field before the game Tuesday wondered about all of that hit-by-pitch stuff, and wondered aloud.
"What would happen if they hit Pedro ... in the toe?"
