  • Our Mets Hall of Fame, election 28

Please limit your ballot to a maximum of 15 names.

This is the twenty-eighth election for Our Mets Hall of Fame. Last time, we elected David Cone.

For the original rules and specifications for this Hall of Fame, see:

    http://www.baseball-fever.com/showthread.php?t=83894

    New, additional rules:

When voting, consider the player’s Mets career only. If you choose to vote “none of the above,” you must explain your decision or your vote will not count.

It is not necessary that you explain your other votes, however it is still encouraged that you do so.

I feel forced to note that the Veteran's Committee is a VALID election process, as a player IS eligible past 15 elections, if they meet certain criteria.

pretty uninspiring crop. I just voted for Knight this time. Everyone else was godo for like a year, Ojeda, Viola or a pariah of sorts even though the numbers weren't as bad a the abuse they received Foster, McReynolds, Sisk, McDowell, creepy Lenny (my own personal pariah) among others. I came across a name I totally didn't recognize in Blaine Beatty, which is the first in a while FWIW.

      Rick Aguilera
      Hubie Brooks
      Lenny Dykstra
      Ray Knight
      Roger McDowell

      Kevin McReynolds
      Randy Myers

      -----

Anyone who doubts Dykstra's deservedness of induction, just go back to the '86 NLCS. Mike Scott may have been ultimately named the MVP of that series, but the Mets don't win it without Nails. Matter of fact, it was Lenny who hit the game-winning homer off Dave Smith in Game 3. Mike Scott shut us down in Games 1 and 4. Without Lenny pinch-hitting a single to spark the 3-run 9th inning rally in Game 6 against Knepper, who'd held the Mets to a single hit through 8.1 -- and, as we know, continue on to the historical 16-inning marathon to win -- we go to Game 7 to face... Mike Scott. Dykstra was a key ingredient to that '86 season and post-season, and his continually dirty uniform was a genuine symbol of the New York Mets in the second half of the 1980's.

And if there are any doubts about McDowell, Game 6 of that series alone should place him in OMHOF (though his contributions to the Mets go well beyond that). Once the Mets had tied it up in the ninth, Roger came in and pitched the longest relief outing of his career: five innings, one hit, no runs.

And as for Ray Knight... Nineteen Eighty-Six World Series Most Valuable Player.

        Ballot:

Lenny Dykstra--Integral part of the 1986 championship team, though his best years came as a Philly and I can see why he doesn't have more support.

Ray Knight--Someone who was a hero in 1986 but probably won't continue to get my support.

Roger McDowell--A comedic presence and an excellent reliever. Is there room for this character?

Kevin McReynolds--It's hard to overlook his 1988-1990 seasons with the Mets as all 3 were All-Star calibre seasons. In 1988, he finished 3rd in MVP voting. A NY Met from 1987-1991. Probably the player with the best case on this ballot.

Randy Myers--A monster of a reliever, though he only really had 2 strong years on the Mets.

Anyway ... when is the next one ?

Since you've been on the recieving end of so many accusations of assorted general nefariousness lately, I just want to thank you for comming up with this idea and faithfully following through with it week after week. It's a lot of fun ! ( well, except for ... you know).
          :applaud:

Now, what else do I have to do to get you to join the Ed Glynn Movement ?

We might as well focus on this since the Mets today went from borderline out of it to a laughing stock of injuries.
