  • Our Mets Hall of Fame, election 57

This is the fifty-seventh election for Our Mets Hall of Fame. Last time, we elected nobody.

    Rules

For the original rules and specifications for this Hall of Fame, see:

    http://www.baseball-fever.com/showthread.php?t=83894

    New, additional rules:

    1) When voting, consider the player’s Mets career only. If you choose to vote “none of the above,” you must explain your decision or your vote will not count.

    2) It is not necessary that you explain your other votes, however it is still encouraged that you do so.

    3) I feel forced to note that the Veteran's Committee is a VALID election process, as a player IS eligible past 15 elections, if they meet certain criteria.

    4) If you vote in a manner deemed suspect and three or more other voters ask you to explain your vote, and you do not, your vote will be disqualified.

    5) For elections to end outright, a series of four straight elections in which no one is elected must occur.

    6) Voters must limit their ballot to fifteen players.

None none none. if one or two good seasons put a player in the Mets HOF then our perception of the Mets is pathetic unless there is some exceptional reason (see Clendenon, Don).

I agree with the above, however I am projecting with my vote for Pagan. He needs only two hits to reach 300 with the team, which puts him in the company of 61 other players (that's a lot, I realize). However, with his 55 stolen bases he will be one of only 20 players with 300 hits and 55 SBs--still not too exclusive, but cool. If he steals five bases next year (very doable) he will be in company with 17 other Mets. If he reaches 75 career Mets steals next year, he will be in the company of only 14 other Mets.

I'm voting for him based on the belief that he will continue his solid performance as time moves forward. Though he could pull a Luis Castillo and do poorly all of a sudden, I think Pagan will do well.

None of the above. Dickey had 1 great year, hopefully more to come, but not worth entrance to the HoF. Pagan has been very good, and was borderline, however I think he needs to be here a few more years/

I agree that, although both candidates would be worthy if they'd performed as they did this past season for even a few years, neither has been with the team long enough to warrant a vote from me.
              Put it in the books.

There is really no use in doing more of these player elections for now, since the general consensus is no one will be elected. Am I accurate in saying that?

In addition, would the VC members be okay with doing one more VC election? I just want to do one last one before the end of next season.

I think both players can get there, but they need to be Mets for a few more seasons and be productive.

I do not think it is worth continuing the player polls. Until next year...
