• So is this what Met fans have become?

As I check out the Met forum it has become mostly a bashing of management, ownership, upper management, bad players,,,etc. Let me just say this early and bold it ... I am as guilty as anyone else.

The longest threads on here is the Ownership/Management thread, and the ridiculous Alderson thread. Its March 9th - ST is fully underway, the Mets are playing in a new stadium (sort of), but as a whole we are dreading the season from a Met perspective. That is one thing I must say I am glad...very glad that I dont have in common in with most Met fans. I cant wait for the season to start. I am not locked in to just watching the Mets. My advice is to become more of a baseball fan. We have all become lawyers, CPA's, judge's, jury's, finacial analysts. I guess we feel we have to to follow the Wilpon owned Mets . We have become everything but baseball fans.

As I have said on other threads..I am looking forward to the 2012 season more than any of last three. We werent winning in 9, 10, and 11...some of you just kidded yourselves. I didnt. I am looking forward to a full season of Duda. I am looking forward to hopefully seeing Wright/Bay bounce back. Ike comes back..................and all this in a better hitting park. I am not worried about Wright getting traded, or Bay getting traded. If it happens it happens.

I dont understand the outrage now (even my own) about the state of the Mets. The Mets have always played in a big market (obviously) and most of their history quite honestly......STINKS. It stinks from a WS, playoff, and player point of view. The team has 2 WS wins in 50 years, a handful of playoff visitis, and very few great players to point to as our own. The emergence of the Yankees in the last 15 years has put a ton of pressure on the Mets to perform, but I am old enough to remember when they Yankees stunk as well.

The Mets are not going to be good for several years. Face it. Are we going to post about Wilpon and Alderson until then? No money = no team ...simple. Hopefully we as fans get out of this rut well before the owners do.

Personally I cant wait for the season to start. I want to see how the new Citi plays, I can switch over to YES to watch the Yanks, and if neither one is playing...I will turn on the Braves, the Cubs...I dont care.

I am looking forward to the season as well. I HATE the Wilpons and won't support them, but still root for the team. I am bored with the whole financial thing anyway. Time for some on the field activity. Maybe Johan can pitch this year, maybe Duda, Wright, Davis and Bay can actually hit well and play defense? Maybe Harvey will force out Pelfrey...who knows? Hopefully they can avoid injuries for once and win 85 games. They certainly are due.

New yorkers just like to nag.

even yankee fans are nagging all the time about their team. even if they win it all they still complain why their team did not sweep the opponent.

Just kidding your situation is really not cool. nobody would have expected that after 2006. but better times will come although I think it will take some time.

Like I said in another thread, I dont hate the Mets, just the Wilpons. I still like David Wright, and am rooting for a turnaround. I will NOT however pay to attend any games, as this would run counter to my ultimate objective.

I too am excited for the Mets, I always am. nothing gets me more excited than baseball season. I am well prepared for the Mets to continue having bad seasons for the next coming years but I still love the team.

Been a Mets fan since '69 and won't quit now. Just will keep my money in my pocket after the Reyes debacle and wait for new management. Still hope some of the young guys improve.

I can't wait for the season to start--I FINALLY have some DVDs of old games to go with my 70+ classic/2009-present radio/TV audio recordings of games...

The Baseball's Greatest Games DVD set, 10 games plus a bonus 11th disc with extra footage, so I'm parsing those out through Spring Training, and getting ready for the season that way (they take 2.5-3.5+ hours, so I can't watch them every night, and besides, they're best spread out...just finished Game #3 on the collection, the 1979 Phils/Cubs game at Wrigley where the Phils won 23-22...easily my least favorite so far, with the Phillies winning and it being a regular season game and teams not in the playoffs and with fewer great players...but since the games preceding in in the set are Game 7 of the 1960 WS and Game 6 of the 1975 WS, comparing it to those gems with their legendary stars ins't fair, it was the first of the three that I've never seen any part of before, and for what it was, it was fun, enjoyable, glad to have it...though I'd really rather they'd have included another game from the 1960-2004 years on the set instead, so many to choose from that would've been better--the Gibson Game is the biggest snub, others come to mind, too, but they don't seem to want to give more than one game per season, to spread out the eras and teams, I guess...still, as a Mets fan, the Grand Single Game would've been great, but at least that's available on the Essential Games of Shea Stadium Set, next on my "to buy" list, and it comes with Game 6 from 1986...so AT LEAST I'll be able to see the Mets win on TV ONCE this year!)

                But I REALLY digress...big-time...

I AM looking forward to the season...

But I'd be lying if I said I were looking forward to it as much as I usually have these past few years.

A lot of that has to do with Reyes being gone; it just seems like an essential part of the team I've grown to know and love (and hate at times) for years is just gone...

I felt that way after Piazza left, but at least that was immediately followed by 2006, so not much regular season time to grieve in THAT wonderful season.

This time...what do I have to look forward to that can help with the pain of losing Reyes?

Not a Wild Card push...even with two, I doubt we'll seriously content past June...and that's with my Spring Training Optimism Mode still on...
Not an exciting new player...we've sold off most of them, and our farm system will take a year or two easily, and they CANNOT rush those guys and screw them up...
Not rooting for some individual Mets achievements, like Reyes winning the batting title...

Not even the prospect of relaxing with some Mets games on the weekends--not a single Sunday Night Baseball spot, and most of their Saturday game will go to the Angels/Dodgers showing in my area instead.

I'll still get the usual 4 games at Dodger Stadium with Vin Scully and 3/4 in NY with Eric Karros and the Road Dodger Crew, or TV muted and Howie Rose (if I renew my XM account for this year...the caliber of Mets play, might not be worth $200 for a college student getting ready to transfer)...

But no extra times on TV with games vs. the Angels, and aside from any MLB Network games I might get, or games on the computer they give for free...

I won't even get to Meet the Mets as much as I did in previous years--ALL Because Wilpon's sold off the players that allowed them to at least get on those TV slots!

THAT'S part of the reason I'm a bit more bitter this year...

For me, Wilpon hasn't just ruined my team--he's preventing me from even getting to SEE my team, to overreact just a tad...in a sense, he's taken them away, just a bit... >

But hey, they're called the Amazin's for a reason...right? (Right?)

And maybe they'll finally retire a number or two...though I'll have to wait until next year, likely, for Piazza's #31 to go up on the Wall (and to buy it for the ridiculous Cooperstown price on MLB.Shop.)

                Oh well...Thole/Ike/Murphy or Turner/Tejada/Wright isn't a bad infield...though it'll stay healthy for all of 10 games...

And maybe Johan or Dickey can at least redeem the year a little bit and throw the Mets' first no-hitter...THAT, at least, would bring some light in before another winter of discontent (hopefully the last with Wilpon.)
