What's been going on for a while now?
Please help. I was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer last summer, and now I'm in a position where I need financial assistance. For the full story, please check out my GoFundMe campaign at https://gofund.me/3874ea2d. Thank you.

Maybe he is referring to him sounding different on the air. I think he had oral surgery. At some points you cant even tell its Somers.

It's sad, because Steve was such a heavy smoker for years. I remember Imus complaining after entering the studio after Steve's shows. I barely recognize his voice nowadays.

Yes. He had oral surgery. He apparently went on the air right after the oral surgery, still with stitches and cotton balls in mouth, at least that is what he said. He didn't say the reason for the oral surgery. He might have even called it "dental" surgery, which led me to believe it was not terribly serious and that his voice would return to normal after a normal period of recovery for dental surgery. But now the condition has lasted for several weeks. He has a high pitched voice, like he talks on helium. He is barely recognizable at times. I have enjoyed him on the air for almost as long as I can remember, since the early 1980's when he did the overnight show. Now it is very difficult, even upsetting, to listen, because he must have a serious health problem, maybe even cancer related given his smoking and one or two comments made by him or a listener when he was on the air right after the surgery.

Can't find any news stories about his condition on the internets.

I hadn't heard anything more serious about Steve's condition except for the oral surgery. Here's to hoping that he is well. He truly is reason I love listening to the 'FAN everyone else but Richard Neer is too "anal" for me.

During last night's show, Somers said that he is not suffering from any illness and that he simply had dental or oral surgery. He made the comment b/c some people, he said, had been expressing some concern about whether his condition was serious. Hopefully that is true and eventually he will recover his true voice.

That's why I love this site. Where else would I find this info? I heard Schmoozer one night and I swear I thought he has sucked in helium for a gag or something. I went on vacation for two weeks, came back, and heard him again with the same voice. I've been wondering what happened. Hope all is well with Steve.
