  • Johan Santana pitching at home and on the road

Johan Santana may be going through a no-hitter hangover. But maybe one of the reasons why he struggled
in his last two starts at Yankee Stadium and at Tampa Bay is because he's pitching away from the friendly
confines of Citi Field. Some guys for whatever reason have a bad year pitching on the road.

Santana has made 7 starts at home this year and every one of those starts he pitched very well.
Infact, his worst start at home this year he pitched 7 innings and gave up 3 runs,a 3.86 E.RA.
Ironically enough that was one of his wins, his first win,on Saturday May 5 on Tom Seaver Bobblehead Day.

Santana has made 6 starts on the road this year and arguably only one of those starts did he pitch very well. That was on Sunday April 29 when he pitched 6 shutout innings at Colorado and got a no-decision.
His next best start on the road was on Friday May 11 when he pitched 6 innings and gave up 3 runs,a 4.50 E.RA at Miami.

Santana's E.RA at home this year is 1.31.His E.RA on the road this year is 6.37.
Santana's E.RA at home in the first 6 innings of the game is 0.96.
Santana's E.RA on the road in the first 6 innings of the game is 5.84.
And if you don't count the Saturday May 5 game at home Santana's E.RA at home in the first 6 innings of the game is 0.45.

    Santana at home

    4/11 5 1 1 Washington
    4/24 6 2/3 1 1 Miami(gave up the run in the seventh)
    5/5 7 3 3 Arizona
    5/16 6 2/3 2 2 Cincinnati(one run was given up in the seventh)
    5/26 9 0 0 San Diego
    6/1 9 0 0 St.Louis

    Santana on the road
    IP R ER Against
    4/17 1 1/3 6 4 Atlanta
    4/29 6 0 0 Colorado
    5/11 6 3 3 Miami
    5/21 6 1/3 4 4 Pittsburgh(two runs were given up in the seventh)
    6/8 5 6 6 Yankees
    6/14 5 4 4 Tampa Bay

P;S;For what it's worth the Mets have done very well in games that milladrive and I have gone to this year.
But from the luck of the draw we have benefitted by seeing the three top starting pitchers of the Mets
    when they have been successful.

The Mets are 6-2 in games I have been to this year. But when I got my 6 wins Santana pitched 4 times,
Dickey pitched once, and Niese pitched once. When I got my two losses Batista pitched once and Gee
pitched once as those two losses happened during the doubleheader against the Giants on Monday April 23.

The Mets are 4-0 in games that milladrive has been to this year.In those 4 games Santana pitched 3 times,
    and Niese pitched once.

Milladrive and I are going to Sunday's game against Cincinnati as we will be at Keith Hernandez Bobblehead
Day.The pitching matchup on paper shows we have our work cut out for us as Chris Young goes against
Johnny Cueto.Well, who thought the Mets would sweep 3 games at Tampa Bay? That's baseball.
And I'll also be going to Wednesday night's game against Baltimore with Gee.Well, that's why they play the
games. No matter what happens it will be fun to be at the ballpark and on Sunday we will get a Keith
    Hernandez Bobblehead as well.

So the trend continues.Santana pitches at home.He pitches very well.Six shutout innings against Baltimore.
Santana himself has a 24 inning scoreless streak at home and counting.Well, barring any rainouts or injuries
Santana's next two starts are on the road.So hopefully he can start a trend where he pitches just as well
on the road as he has at home.He certainly has the track record to be a dominant pitcher anywhere.
