    Mike Nickeas

    I think it's time for him to go. He's not worth the paper his contract written on. It's the All-Star break. He can't hit his weight, and he's no better defensively than Rob Johnson, who at least not only knows how to call a game and can hit, but also has just what the Scarecrow needed: a brain. I've seen enough of Nickeas to have come to the conclusion that I think it's time for him to go (either to Buffalo or whatever). Right now, he's taking up valuable space on the 25-man roster that can be filled with someone who can contribute on a positive level.

        He may have helped Dickey win his CYA. His 2.20 CERA was higher than any other catcher RA platooned with.

            ...unfortunately, it's a sad commentary on athletes' autographs that, even though it looks to me like the guy is holding the ball in such a way that the signature is sideways, the signature itself is illegible, so there's no way to know for sure...

                A fitting indication of his... dare I say it... I.Q. (perhaps the only number his BA could match). Not even the sweet spot, for goodness sake.

                  It's a sloppy auto. But to his credit, though it may not have been intentional, new players to the league sometimes keep away from the sweetspot so as to let the more prominant players use the space. We used to try to get team balls (or as much of the team as we could) on a ball and most of the lesser-known players kept their sig's out of the main areas.

                    Good point, and, considering he'd been in the Majors for a mere four days, he probably didn't wish to take liberties. On the other hand, it was noted that the ball was signed then tossed into the crowd, where the lucky recipient was standing to Gary's right. If one is aiming for a team ball, would a four-game rookie be the first player on the list? And I would think the collector would want his hands washed with soap, heh.
