  • No matter what happens dont be disappointed in 2012

I know after getting their asses handed to them by the Braves for 3 games and now having to play Washington for 3 the prospects aren’t looking so good. I say …so what? Think back to March when we were all predicting 90-100 losses, and being out of it from day 1. At least we got a half a season of being competitive.

I am not saying the 2012 season is over. I am not saying they have 0% at the WC spots. Although personally I don’t expect it at all. I think the clock has struck midnight on Cinderella. Maybe I am wrong, and maybe they have another run in them. I am rooting like hell for it, just not expecting it. We shall see.

Many of you have pointed to the pen and are saying “this is why”. Your right on some level. The pen has sucked and has cost the Mets multiple wins. The other side of the coin is how many wins did the Mets pull off because of late game two out run scoring hits? Just as many as the pen blew I am betting or close to it. Both cases are an equal anomaly. Either way it doesn’t matter you are what your record says you are.
There have been many nights this year the Mets pulled it off late and the other teams fans walked away saying “wow our pen sucks”.

The Mets have 73 games left. Anything can happen. Lets root for the best, but if that doesn’t happen I don’t think we can be disappointed in the 2012 season.

The key here is 73 games. Coming into the second half, they had 76 games to go, and need to win 44 of 76 to reach 90 wins, a solid goal to aim for. They now need 44 of 73, which is a tall order for any team. It's all about forgetting this weekend and move forward.

This team has a lot of adversity to face, with 2 starters out of the rotation and a number of other injuries, not to mention the spectre of Jason Bay. I'm pretty confident that he will affect the Mets like the return of Luis Catillo and Ollie P a few years ago; I can just see them going into the dump with that hole returning to the lineup.

Time to take 3 from Washington!

Well, you're right that anything can happen. I'm not sure Washington is that much better.

And yes, no matter what happens, they've already exceeded expectations.

The last couple of years they had relatively strong first halves and then crashed and burned. To exceed my expectations they have to win more than 85 games. Then maybe you can say the youngsters are getting better and the team is trending up.... Young guns coming soon....hope for a real turnaround.

If they flop like they have in recent memory then it is status quo. Flopping with high priced guys and flopping with no names is still flopping and going nowhere in high gear. Don't get me wrong, I have enjoyed the Mets so far but I haven't been drinking the wildcard, playoffs, 'turned the corner' Kool Aid either. Too many issues with this team that still need to be addressed including the crooked morons who own the team.

That rotation is sick. Strasburg may be the wild card, what will Wash do when he approaches his innings ceiling?

IMO, it's been a dream season so far for the Mets considering expectations early on. I have to give Collins credit of course, but it's more than just that. Even with some issues to the lineup (Bay out for almost forever, Ike Davis flailing at balls, etc), the Mets have overcome most obstacles so far and succeeded. Personally, I love what Dickey's doing - he seems like a legitimately nice guy, and I'm really happy he's having great success this year.

I'm really not sure they can sustain thru September without some major improvements to the pen - and for the most part, even those can be a 50/50 proposition. But the NL East needs the Mets to be relevant in my opinion and they are. Should be a fun final 2 months of the season to see if they can take that next step.

If they feel they can win the whole bag, he'll keep pitching. What i'd do is (if they have a decent lead) shut him down for 2-3 weeks simply to save the arm. Bring him back late-August and let him loosen up til the postseason begins. If they're close in the standings, then things get really hairy.

Strasburg, Gonzalez, and Zimmerman will likely get injured sometime soon. And Bryce Harper isn't going to hit like this again, unless he changes.

The Mets are 47-48 and take on Washington on Monday and I don't see how the Mets will win.

Strasburg is pitching on Wednesday against Jeremy Hefner.

                    This season is finished.

The Mets have the best, smartest fans in baseball.
