  • 2012 New York Mets MVP & TSA Poll

Well, here we are again, at the end of a less-than-desirable season. But the question must be asked, who do you feel can be considered the New York Mets' 2012 most valuable player(s)?

The "Most Valuable Player" and "Tom Seaver Award" are, as has been the case in the past few seasons, in the same poll. The pitcher with the most votes will be awarded Baseball-Fever's fifth annual TSA. If the player with the most votes also happens to be a pitcher (as it was in '08), then he will be considered BBF's Mets MVP as well.

To qualify for this ballot, position players must have appeared in at least twenty-five (25) games and pitchers must have appeared in at least ten (10) games for the New York Mets during the 2012 season.

Feel free to vote for anywhere between one and five players.
    51

    The poll is expired.

    Put it in the books.

As I mentioned in the OP, feel free to vote for up to five players. The cream will indeed rise to the top in the long run. The poll is open until mid-December.

Anyway, after much deliberation, I voted for (in alphabetical order):

Ike Davis (for his incredible second half [ended the season with a 110 OPS+] and playing a GG-calbre first base)
    R.A. Dickey (needs no explanation)
Scott Hairston (for having a career year while playing only part-time; led the team in Slugging Percentage)
Rubén Tejada (for playing GG-calibre SS and for hitting near .290, all at 22-years-old)
David Wright (for hitting over .300, returning to form, and having a GG-calibre year)

Runners-up (I would've voted for them if allowed more than five votes) (...in order of preference):

Daniel Murphy (for working extremely hard to become an above-average secondbaseman, as well as hitting in the .290s; it was tough for me to choose between him and Tejada)
Jonathon Niese (for making the first year of his five-year contract worth every dollar)
Johan Santana (for throwing the first no-hitter in Mets history)
    Put it in the books.

Originally had only two real qualifiers:

Wright and Dickey - for obvious reasons, they're the best of the 2012 Mets by far.

Then I added Davis because his second half was quite impressive and he put up serious numbers. Plus, I hope the trade talk is dead wrong.
Cleon Jones catches a deep fly ball in F. Scott Fitzgerald's Valley of the Ashes, and a second-grader smiles in front of the black and white television.

I voted the same five since they are the best five the Mets have. If I had to pick just one it would have been Dickey.

          Wright-Again, our best offensive player
Hairston- Amazing year and as a part time player
          Murphy- Solid year
Harvey- Shows promise for a (hopefully) great career

Dickey - nobody else warrants consideration in my opinion.

Ike - there are 2 halves to a season
            Wright - See Ike

In alphabetical order,Davis,Dickey,Hairston,Tejada, and Wright coincidentally just like
milladrive. And everything that milladrive said about these players I couldn't have said better myself. The only thing I would like to add to what milladrive said is about
Tejada hitting near .290 all at 22 years old. That's impressive but the only thing that
could be more impressive is if Ty Cobb meant what he once said according to his movie that he could hit .290 all at 72 years old.Now that would be something to see.(lol).

Welp, as it turns out, for the second time in five years, BBF's Most Valuable Met also receives the fifth annual Tom Seaver Award. Interestingly enough, the other pitcher to earn that accolade also received a vote.

                  From 16 voters:
                  Code:
                    Player Votes Pct.

                  R.A. Dickey 15 93.75
                  David Wright 12 75.00
                  Ike Davis 8 50.00
                  Scott Hairston 5 31.25
                  Rubén Tejada 4 25.00
                  Matt Harvey 2 12.50
                  Daniel Murphy 2 12.50
                  Johan Santana 1 6.25
                  Put it in the books.
