  • June 23, 1971: Rick Wise pitches a no-hitter

Today marks the 46th anniversary of Rick Wise's no hitter at Cincinnati in a 4-0 Phillies win. Wise accounted for 3 of the Phillies runs by hitting two home runs, one solo and the other a 2 run shot. The only blemish was a walk to Reds SS Dave Concepcion in the bottom of the 6th. The late Roger Freed, the last Phillie to wear number 20 before Mike Schmidt, drove home the other run on a ground out that scored Joe Lis. The final out was recorded by the late 3B John Vuckovich snaring a Pete Rose line drive.

Rose, Bench, Perez, McRae, May and Foster. That's a hellacious line up to no hit.
