  • Wally Westlake turns 97 - One of the oldest living Phillies EVER!

Wally Westlake, a third baseman and outfielder turned 97 his week on November 8. He is the oldest currently living Phillie and he ranks 7th in age among all living major leaguers.
He wound up a 10 year career with the 1956 Phillies. He made the 1951 N.L all-star team as St.Louis Cardinal. He played 4 1/2 years with his first major league club, the Pittsburgh Pirates and was also a member of the 1954 A.L. pennant-winning, Cleveland Indians.
My preliminary research shows that Westlake may be the second longest living Phillie of all-time, with only shortstop, Alex Monchak (1917-2016) of the 1940 Phillies living longer (98 yrs. 7 mos.)

November 8: Wally Westlake (1956 Phillies) becomes only the second Phillies player to reach his 98th birthday (born: 11/8/1920).
The only Phillies player to live longer was infielder, Alex Monchak (1940 Phillies - 1917-2016) . Monchak lived to be 98 years and 191 days of age (about 98 years, 6 1/2 months).
