Yes, Tom Eshelman, Phillies 2017 minor league pitcher of the year, has seemed to take a detour on his road to the major leagues this year.

This offense is dreadful. One run scored in the entire Giants series and it came from a pitcher. You could pitch underhanded to this team right now and they still wouldn't score.

The baseball looks to be the size of a golf ball right now to Phillies hitters as the team is mired in a slump. Jake . Arrieta went into a rant after yesterday's game about the team's lack of hitting and scouting reports that led to the Phillies using defensive infield shifts, where the team outsmarted itself, and the opponent was able to hit safely despite the shift. The way the Phillies have played lately (swept by the mediocre SF Giants and losing 6 of their last 8 games) Arrieta's rant was well-deserved.

What is the record for most strikeouts for a non-pitcher hitter to begin their major league career with? Mitch Walding is already 0 for 6 or 0 for 7 since making his MLB debut on May 30 and all of his outs have been Strikeouts.

Or, arguably because of the shift. The team has certainly been mired in a slump this road trip. But, then, the Phils on the road (12-17) and Phils at home (19-9) are like two different teams.

Over their last 30 games, they are playing .500 ball (15-15).

With the 3rd overall pick in the 2018 MLB Draft, the Phillies selected Wichita State 3B Alec Bohm. In 57 games, Bohm hit .339 with 16 homers and 55 RBI. A scout from another organization has likened Bohm to "a lesser Pat Burrell." Once Bohm put his signature to a Phillies contract, he will receive $6.9 million.

June 5: Logan Simmons - a high school player from Macon, GA, becomes the first player drafted by the Phillies who was born in the 21st Century. Simmons is a 6'2', 180 lbs shortstop who was born on April 11, 2000, was drafted today by the Phillies in the sixth round.

June 6: I'll be in the minority on this, but Dominguez should not have been pulled in the 9th. It was a missed opportunity to see whether Dominguez could work his way out of trouble and get the save. Even if he gave up the slam to Heyward, it would have been a learning experience. I imagine Kapler was concerned about match ups, but if Dominguez is going to be a closer, he has to learn to work his way out of those types of jams.

Along with Neris, Adam Morgan should also be sent packing. Why did he throw a fastball to Heyward? Didn't Morgan know the way to get Heyward out is with breaking balls? Because Morgan is a mediocre lefty relief specialist, he'll probably be a journeyman for a couple of years once he leaves town.

6/6/18: Crawford: back from the DL Walding back to Lehigh Valley.
NOT READY FOR PRIME TIME; Mitch Walding was 0 for 6 (all strikeouts) in his first stint in the major leagues..

June 8: Vince Velasquez (4-7) takes a pummeling, giving up 10 earned runs in 3.2 innings and seeing his earned run average soar to 4.95. After enjoying just one day atop the NL East the Phillies have plummeted are now are barely over .500 at 32-29.

June 4: Phillies star pitcher from 1960 to 1965, Art Mahaffey turns 80.
Taylor Phillips - a Phillie righthanded pitcher back in "the bad old days" of 1958 to 1961 when the Phils finished in last place for four consecutive years, turns 85 this month (June 18)..

June 9: the Phillies take their second pasting in a row from the Milwaukee Brewers losing 12-3 after the previous days 11-4 loss Not much of a silver linin except for Rhys Hoskins returning from the DL and homering.
Rookie, Dylan Cozens goes on the DL with a quad strain.
