    OK game 1

So far....Rolens Grand slam off Santana, who was so much better to keep then Tejada right?

    Lieber's line 3.1 9 hits 8 runs 21.60 ERA

Burrell hits a solo HR after Carpenter just goes for the upper left part of the K zone 6 times!!! Big mistake by Carpenter, even Burrell has 3 brain cells

I am just hoping Rollins gets 1 hit

Pujos hits 2 HRS...Fultz stinks as well

Can we keep track of Manuel's poor decision making skills in this thread too? For instance, Ryan Howard hitting sixth, using Lieberthal with Lieber (Lieber prefers using the backup catcher), IBB-ing Edmonds to get to Rolen, allowing Fultz to stay in against Pujols.

Nails, we'll probably be tracking Bat's Boners all year. Right now the count is at two, for a healty 2.00 Earned Bat Boner Average (EBBA)

Lieby only got the nod because it was opening day. I don't think you'll be seeing that combination again for a while.

While were at it we can probably add they used too many pitchers, period. For nothing. The game should have been Frankiln's after the fourth, thats what he's in the pen for. No I take that back, thats what he should be in the pen for, instead he's Mr. Inning Seven in Bat's grand winning strategy that will ensure no Phils starter will ever make it past the sixth inning. Man, I really hate this fixed back end of the bullpen crap, the same garbage that made Worrell our closer when Wags went down, to the tune of seven blown saves and a blown wildcard and they had the audacity to announce "he did a good job filling in as closer". These guys need to be flexible, but Bat would still run Rhodes out there against a lineup stacked with righties in the eighth because he's the setup guy. It hasn't happened yet, but it will; Bat's idiosynchracies will cost us games.

I am sick and tired of the "blame Bat Manuel for his own mistakes" when clearly the blame rests on those who won't do what he stategizes so brilliantly if you looked at his head while he was thinking these thoughts you'd be struck blind or turn to a pillar of salt.
There are times during a Phillies game when you say "Gee if my starter ran out of gas and coughed up 8 runs I would replace him" and Bat does nothing.
          Sheer brilliance.
You worry about petty wild cards while Bat rewrites situational baseball strategy for the next millenium...

Actually I think the brainscreen on the back of his head had a donut on it at the time, till Varsho changed the channel and watched reruns of Three's Company.

Its upsetting because already you can start counting up the games we'll lose to Bat's new-age brilliance. On the occasions I agree with Howard Eskin, yesterday had it picked right regarding Bat "He just can not think fast on his feet - thats his problem." And where he went wrong was Leiber didnt run out of gas, he had no command, was missing to the inside of the plate and bat couldnt recognize that cause his brain was too busy playing catch-up, and after the game says "I tought he had good command.... he just was missing some inside to righthanders" to paraphrase. Gillick hopefully is not so slow on the uptake, and I think its possible there maybe a change in management sometime midseason. I don't thnk Gillick really wanted Manual anyway. Pinella is out there doing nothing....

              Pinella?
Didn't he just compile a string of three straight sub 70 win seasons with those Debbil Rays???...Ack!

Yeah, 70 wins..without him they may have only managed sub 60 win seasons...

Do you mean you would choose Manual over Lou?

I knew you were gonna axe me that and I have a prepared statement to read in response, ahem:
                  Neither!
Given Gillick's rehashing his greatest hits of the 90's leads me to believe you're onto something with Lou...

That's way too little to offer for the marshmallow tossing arm from Souderton, Pa.
Throw in Utley, Howard, Rollins, Myers, and Coste, I make that deal all day long if I'm Gillick.

Now, THIS is Philadelphia at it's finest! Setting up a thread to daily rip the team! Right on!

Yes, catching Lieberthal with Lieber on the mound, however, if the decision on catcher was based on current skills or pitcher's desire to throw to them, Lieberthal would never play, and we know that's not gonna happen.

I'm more pissed they gave up Jake Blalock for Dellucci than Tejada. We went from trying to get Hank to giving them Jake for what will probably be a one year rental of a utlity outfielder.

And has anyone pondered that we gave up the guy who could have been our 3B this year, who would probably hit .310 there and field there very well, for a guy currently in a Turkish (or equivalent) prison? Exactly what was the urgency to trade Polanco last year? Oh yea, $$$$$

Well, that certainly was impressive watching Liebertal feebly grund out to 1B with the sacks full. Guess he was saving the lefthanded bat on the bench for tomorrow's game.

What about the Lieberthal to Rowand pick off move?
Granted Pujols didn't grasp the subtlety of such nuance and just kept going to 3rd sack...
