Phillies Sellout streak Officially ends at 257 Games - 37 Months

The Phillies home sellout streak which began on July 6, 2009 came to an end exactly 37 months later on August 6, 2012, when the team drew a healthy 41,000+ that was still about 4,000 below capacity. The Phillies had been drawing aT ABOUT `101-102 PERCENT OF CAPACITY, SINCE THEY USUALLY SOLD ALL SEATING PLUS ANOTHER 1,000 day of the game, standing room only spots.
At 81 home games per year the streak equalled selling out three years worth of games (243) plus an additional 14 games in the three year, one month span.
The strak started with a 22-1 bashing of the Cincinnati Reds three years ago and ended with ninth inning heroics Sunday (August 5) as the Phillies squeaked pasat the Arizonna Diamondbacks 6-5. In the streak-ender Atlanta got to starter Vance Worley early as the Phils went down to a 6-1 defeat.

The Phillies home sellout streak is the second longest in recent memory. The longest streak was set shortly after the Cleveland Indians opened Jacobs Field IN 1995. CoincidentALLY, THE MANAGER THROUGHOUT BOTH THE iNDIANS 1990s STREAK AND THE PHILLIES STREAK THAT JUST TERMINATED WAS THE SAME GUY: CHARLIE MANUEL.

It's likely to take a while to get a new one started. Most likely a very fast start out of the gate next season. As it was, last night's break-off was only about 2K under the sell-out point. What will be interesting is if the number drops down towards 30-33K per game as that may determine some moves the Phillies are willing to do this offseason.

The Indians streak,by the way was 454 games from June 1995 to Opening day 2001 (4/4/01). They kept the streak alive for the opener, but it ended the next day.
Home Game# 2 is often a bit of a let down at any city after the commotion of people frantically trying to get tickets for the season opener. Actually in the days before the streak, I acted on a hunch and made a 90 mile trip to Citizens Bank Park for their second home game of the 2005 season. I had no trouble getting "walk up" tickets from the ticket window for pretty good seats even though I'd waited until the last moment.

I used to like the days of the Vet when nobody showed up to night games. My friends and I would go on a whim on any given night, buy GA tickets for $5 or so (can't remember exact price) and watch batting practice from the outfield. Then we'd walk around to the 1B or 3B line and sit at the front row over the overhang on the 500 level.
