  • Carlos Ruiz Suspended 25 Games

Just broke over Twitter. Found using amphetamines & will miss first 25 games of '13 season.

I'd have to assume his large spike in offense would have him tested a few times more this year.

The Phillies miseries of 2012 are already overlapping 2013 and we're still more than four months away from Opening Day!

This stings the Phillies a bit this offseason as well, I believe. There's been talk that they'd be possibly moving one of their catchers in a trade. Can't happen now since they need the depth.

This is also Ruiz's second time since there's a suspension involved. First time carries no suspension.

I thought it was 60 games for failing a drug test. Is using amphetimines different?

"I have the ultimate respect for Whitesox fans. They were as miserable as the Cubs and Redsox fans ever were but always had the good decency to keep it to themselves. And when they finally won the World Series, they celebrated without annoying every other fan in the country."--Jim Caple, ESPN (Jan. 12, 2011)

Yes. First time offenders are told but the situation remains in confidence. Second time, and it's 25 games. It's steeper for PED users.
