I think that's overstating it some, Cowtipper. At least one other source sees something to the thought:

Eight straight wins . A 9-2 win-loss record. A 2.29 ERA over his last 10 starts. No, we're not talking about R.A. Dickey or Matt Cain; we're talking about A.J. Burnett ...

Statistically, Burnett is out of the top ten in nearly all categories, to be sure. But who knows, he could string together a good second half too.

        AJ's two worst games....

        7.2 innings, 24 hits, 18 R, 18 ER, 3 BB, 7 SO, 3.55 WHIP, 0-1 W-L, 21.32 ERA

        AJ's 13 other games....

        85.1 innings, 64 H, 21 R, 20 ER, 30 BB, 72 SO, 1.102 WHIP, 10-1 W-L, 2.11 ERA

The Pirates have won 13 out of 15 of his starts, 12 of them in a row. His ER number on a game by game basis is 0, 2, 12, 2, 2, 2, 0, 0, 3, 2, 2, 0, 3, 6, 2. Seriously, outside of those two bad games how has he not been great this year? I actually touched on his overall numbers not telling the full story a few days ago....

This hasn't been your same old Yankees AJ that is for sure.

I wouldn't go that far. At this present time... One teams trash is another teams treasure. For $13 million($6.5 million per) of the $31.1 million owed to AJ, a bag of balls and a half eaten Dorito, I would say this was a steal for the Pirates, how about you?

Pirates just took the lead. AJ is looking to be the first Pittsburgh pitcher to win 16 games since 1991.
