Pirates all time 25 man roster

    C: Jason Kendall, Manny Sanguillen
    1B: Jake Beckley, Elbie Fletcher
    2B: Bill Mazeroski, Claude Ritchey
    3B: Tommy Leach, Pie Traynor
    SS: Honus Wagner, Arky Vaughan
    LF: Willie Stargell, Barry Bonds
    CF: Max Carey
    RF: Roberto Clemente, Paul Waner
SP: Babe Adams, Wilbur Cooper, Bob Friend, Sam Leever, Ed Morris
RP: Roy Face, Kent Tekulve, Al McBean, Tony Watson, Dave Giustri

How many games would this team win against 2016 competition if all of these Pirates players were together in their Pirates prime?

The way I see it is the starting rotation would be among the best in baseball with a very good bullpen. The lineup would clearly be the best in baseball. Bonds and Waner on the bench enough said. All that said 115 wins should be possible.

Ron, you are essentially correct. Stargell played 1st base as early as 1963, but only for 16 games. He continued to play sporadically until 1972 when he played 101 games there. But he could and did occasionally did play there so...I took a liberty and moved him there. I think the Baseball Gods will understand.

As an aside, I feel like my team needs more pitching...another middle inning guy...maybe Bill Blass?

The problem is, Stargell really didn't move to 1B until 1975, pretty late in his career. He played quite a bit there in 72 and a fair amount in 64, his second season. But, most years he played 10, 20 or so games at first. All of his best seasons were in LF. He did have several productive seasons at first, including his undeserved MVP year in 79. But, he was a much more productive player as a LFer and played many more games there. Of course, putting Stargell at first makes room for another fine LFer- Bonds, Clarke, Kiner. And, it puts a big bat at first, though most of those big bat moments took place while he was in LF.

    Arky Vaughn

    3B Pie Traynor

    CF Max Carey
    Lloyd Waner

    RF Roberto Clemente
    Paul Waner

    SP Babe Adams
    Wilbur Cooper
    Deacon Phillippe
    John Candelaria

5th Starter Rip Sewell or Dock Ellis?

    RP Bob Friend
    Vern Law

    CP Roy Face
    Kent Tekulve

I think Danny Murtaugh is Manager and Chuck Tanner is Bench Coach.
Even though his Pirate days were probably PED free, I'll trade Bonds to someone for an LHP
Honorable mention goes to Matty Alou.
Honorable Mention goes to George Grantham
    Honorable Mention to Dave Parker
    Honorable Mention to All Oliver
    Semi-honorable mention to Dave Cash
Although their time with the Pirates was short I like Manny Mota and Smokey Burgess as Pinch Hitters...although this line up sooooooo doesn't need them.
For post season play I'll activate Bruce Kison.

I might move Pops to 1st and make room somewhere for Kiner and Clarke. And where is Parker? There just isn't enough room for all the hitters that have played for them.
    I second this...
