Strikeouts are boring! Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.-Crash Davis

He was with the team for most of spring training and he didnt do terrible, but didnt look great either.
When Dave Roberts went down, the team was going to call up Nate Schierholtz, who was the obvious choice, but it just so happened that Nate had a sore leg and had missed a game in Fresno, so the Giants chose to call up Clay Timpner instead. I don't think Clay even got one at bat, but he was back to the minors immedietley once they heard Nate was going to be ok.
It seems that Nate wasn't ok after all, and would need more time off...so instead of bring Timpner back up for the 2nd time in 2 days, they picked the next on the list (so really, he was their 3rd choice)...John "Babe" Bowker.
I'm happy with the decision so far, as he as paid off for us with the 2 HR's and a triple in his first 3 games. His swing is a bit sloppy, as most of his hits have looked like accidents so far...but I love what he is producing.
Can't wait for next year with the possibility of Bowker, Fred Lewis, a healthy Kevin Frandsen etc. playing every day. Hopefully we will find somebody that wants Winn, Durham, Aurilia etc."Candlestick made me a man" -Will Clark

One more thing on Bowker. He has been working with JT Snow at first base, taking a crash course at learning the position. Who needs Ortmeier and his "upside" if Bowker can keep it up."Candlestick made me a man" -Will Clark

jermz: I don't think Clay even got one at bat...
timpner pinch-hit in the 6th for zito last friday night.
[Bowker] paid off for us with the 2 HR's and a triple in his first 3 games.
a home run in each of his first 2 games is a record.
a would-be 3rd home run in his first 3 games was knocked down by the wind, and he settled for a triple.
Who needs Ortmeier and his "upside" if Bowker can keep it up?
bowker uses a small-sized bat and has a relatively short swing. the giants want for him to concentrate on line drives, and let the home runs come as they do."you don't have to burn books to destroy a culture. just get people to stop reading them." -ray bradbury

The thing to have done w/ Roberts and the vet OFs was to trade them posthaste to the Mets at the begining of April. At the time, their OF had been decimated by injuries, and could have traded for one of them.Trusted traders list-
