  • What to do about Barry Zito?

Hi, I'm new to BBF but I've been reading it on and off for a while. I've been a Giants fan since the early '90s.

It's pretty obvious that the Giants need to do something about Zito, but what? Does management have the guts to send him to the minors or release him? What are the odds of him bouncing back and becoming a good pitcher again?

Send him to AAA to work on his game

Trade him (probably have to eat most of his contract)

Most of the options I do not believe are open to the Giants. If he was sent down I am sure some other team would claim him and the Giants would end up paying 99% of his contract. Same with just releasing him. No the best thing would be trade him but who wants an 0-6 starter who's fast ball tops out at 85 miles per hour. Its the pen for now, and them I guess if that does not work you eat his contract and release him.

It's hard to believe that a big guy (6'4" 205 lbs) can't throw hard enough to break a pane of glass.

The first thing is to track down any one in the organization who thought signing Zito to this ridiculous contract was a good idea and getting rid of them.

The owner signed off on it, so he needs to sell the team. But yeah, I get your point. His last three years in Oakland were just average at best.
