  • vizquel done?

after running a bit (not game-situation baserunniing) vizquel was shelved for a while. and then when he returned to the field to try batting, he was again put back on the shelf.

i have the feeling that vizquel will not return this season.

That would be too bad because I enjoy watching him play, but Giants probably aren't giving up too much by not having him out there and getting some experience for the kids instead. Hopefully Omar can stick around and be a mentor to Bocock/Burriss thoughout the season.

Hope not. Been my favorite SS for years.

Would have liked to see him get the hits record of SS's this year.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP)—San Francisco shortstop Omar Vizquel is pain-free and ready to finally get back to playing the sparkling defense that has made him an 11-time Gold Glover.

The 41-year-old Vizquel is set to make his season debut for the Giants on Saturday in the middle game against the Philadelphia Phillies, kicking off his 20th major league season. He has been sidelined all season after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his left knee on Feb. 27.

This has to be great news for the Giants.

        It is for me.

none of the 11 games that i have been to this season featured vizquel.
          i miss him. a lot.

head trainer dave groeschner recently said that he does not know how long vizquel can last, that the knee is still very much in question. besides that, we are to expect that vizquel will be sat (often?) as the giants try to stretch his stay.

i sure hope that the magician soon gets to full strength and can play full-tilt.

Vizquel was done last year. He can't hit anymore. It is pointless to make Omar the starting shortstop at this point.

Omar needs to retire. Were at the time now that the last of the late 80s rookies are retiring or are close to retiring.

So far so good...he is hitting .385 with a few key RBI's, great defense & a stolen base in just his first 4 games back.

I am sure he will finish off the season hitting about .270 with 15 steals & the great defense we have come to know/love. I wouldn't be surprised if this is his last go-around though.

I can see Omar being dealt at the deadline if he stays reasonably productive.

I don't see much of a market for Omar. A light hitting defensive wiz isn't high on teams lists for trade wants. Teams don't usually look for D in mid-year.

Is Omar the Best Shortstop of all time ? I don't know, but he's been my favorite forever. He's fun to watch :applaud:

That's a good question. I know people always want to add hitting to the mix, so obvious choices from the majority would say Ripken, A-Rod (when he played SS), Tejada etc.

But I love the fact that you have even brought up that question. Defensively, I think only Ozzie Smith could be argued against Omar.

vizquel quickly became one of my favorites, and still is. but his knee remains untested to a degree.
i hope that he can continue his current pattern of playing time.

Will Omar Vizquel make it to the Hall of Fame? If so, will he go in as a Seattle Mariner?
