    agreed.
the giants felt that their hand was forced by the losses of vizquel and frandsen.

that is true Tony, given the circumstances and the way Velez played in the spring, it was the natural thing for the team to do. It's too bad that he wasn't ready, but he has the talent to make it back up. Let's hope he takes this opportunity and gets better.

ctaka: Seems that in spring training, he showed a decent eye and was willing to take a walk, which is a big weapon with his speed. Once the regular season started, he acted as if he was allergic to walks. Again, if he can work on his plate discipline...

velez started pressing at the palte and then carried it out there onto the field. you guys have it right that lower ball is what the kid needs right now.
he will continue to learn how to make his speed a weapon. he will continue to learn that he must stop thinking once out there on the field, and concentrate.
i gotta give him this, though: from his first day through his last, he consistently tried to put the ball on the ground. that is a positive that he can build upon.

It didn't really surprise me nor bother me for Velez to be sent down. I think he still has the talent to be a regular contributor in the future. Getting some regular playing time to work on his D will help him down the road. Seems that in spring training, he showed a decent eye and was willing to take a walk, which is a big weapon with his speed. Once the regular season started, he acted as if he was allergic to walks. Again, if he can work on his plate discipline (he was very vulnerable to breaking balls down in the zone) and learn to take pitches out of the strike zone, I am confident he will return to the lineup as a better player than he is now.

Velez will be better off playing every day at Fresno then sitting on the bench in San Francisco.

He was probalby not ready to play every day yet in the Bigs. It looks like a maturity issue. The kid has talent, no doubt about that. But it's not his time yet.

oh, come on. yeah you did.

his defense has been nothing but average on his best days.
    his bat is very undisciplined.
he has made numerous baserunning miscues.

possibly the straw that broke the camel's back was velez allowing his play in the box to greatly affect his play in the field:
physical errors are one thing, mental ones are another.

this is a good move for young velez.
