  • the 3-dot lounge looks at bonds and congress

Deep down, you'd suspect commissioner Bud Selig doesn't want to suspend Barry Bonds.

But if Selig merely sits back and waits for the crisis to blow over -- as it certainly would, from the fans' point of view -- he'll have Congress on his back.

If he's called to testify at a hearing created specifically for himself, he's going to be caught between a rock and a hard place.

If he admits to taking steroids he screwed and if he lies about it, he's screwed even more....perjury.

Anyone remember that Karma I was mentioning earlier?

      scylla and charybdis, yes.

but karma, as i understand it, includes the total actions of an individual.
i think that bonds has done enough good in his life to counter the current headlines.

        Karma

for every event that occurs, there will follow another event whose existence was caused by the first, and this second event will be pleasant or unpleasant according as its cause was skillful or unskillful.

I take skillfull and unskillful to mean honest and dishonest in Barry's case.

without the benefit of an encylcopedia right now, there are formal and informal interpretations of karma.
the above is the informal, i believe.

here is today's 3-dot lounge column
              Sunlight is the best disinfectant.

The real problem is that as much as Bud doesn't want to delve into this as other players will also be exposed as the steroid issue mushrooms he can't put the genie back in the bottle.
Eventually, the truth will out. So even if baseball attempts to cover it up the stories will unfold and ultimately Bud becomes irrelevant. He can choose to lead/follow/or get out of the way. Cause it is coming.

In due time we will learn who used and who didn't.

Ultimately, fans will have to determine which records to respect.

Sooo, the million dollar question is when Barry knocks out homer 756 will he be treated as the rightful Home Run King or will the number be judged as fascinating, interesting, but ultimately irrelevant as Hank still is the legit Home Run Champ.

Which brings me full circle cause we already have a glaring example.

Which single season home run record do you respect the most:
              Barry/Big Mac/Marris.

Wish I could do a poll on that.
