  • Melky Cabera hits tracker

Melky Cabrera has 67 hits in 45 games. He's on pace for 241 hits!!! That would obliterate the SF Giants team record of 208 hits by Willie Mays in 1958. The only other SF Giants to reach 200 hits were Bobby Bonds in 1970 with 200 hits and Rich Aurlia in 2001 with 206 hits. The top 10 all-time single season hits leaders are all New York Giants. Hall of Famer Bill Terry has five of the top nine all time seasons. Wow.

    Code:

    6. Frankie Frisch 223	1923

    8. Bill Terry 213	1931

Melky seems to be peaking now in his late 20s (he turns 28 on August 11). Last year he had a very surprising 201 base hits for Kansas City. It was only a few years ago, in 2009 when he was pretty much beat out of a starting outfield job with the Yankees by Brett Gardner, so he's made rapid progress since then.

Melky's HR last night was an absolute LASERBEAM. I can't recall a ball leaving the yard that fast.

Melky was suspended today for 50 games for failing a drug test. There goes the SF team hits record. Melky ends up with 159 hits on the season.

The San Francisco Giants' Melky Cabrera has been suspended 50 games after violating Major League Baseball's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.
