I think the division is super tough. Not a lot of free wins.

    fg:
    Cubs 87
    Cards 85
    Brewers 82
    Reds 80
    Pirates 78

    Pecota:
    Cards 86
    brewers 85
    Reds 80
    Cubs 79
    Pirates 79

Pythagorean luck can go 6-7 wins in either direction so about anyone could win it.

Winning at least 3 vs. the Dodgers would certainly be a pleasant surprise. Thank gosh we get to hide AW this series and avoid Kershaw.

The bad cubs start makes the division even more interesting. The cubs are 3-4 wins more talented than the cards and brewers but they are also 4 games back now.

this means the projections say the cubs, brewers and cards are now all projected to finish the season with about the same record. This likely won't play out like this but still at least in theory this is probably becoming a quite tight race.

I wonder if one of the 3 teams will sign one of keuchel or Kimbrel now. Neither team can afford to give away any more ground and signing one of them could give a team a slight advantage. I wonder how much down the demands of the two free agents are by now.

btw does anyone know why pham was traded for essentially 3 fringe prospects? I understand he had a bad start but those guys they received are rated as 40 fv guys. 40 fv means projected future bench player. Now it is not unheard off that 40 fv guys get better but that is 18-19 year old guys and not 22-23 year old guys like the guys they got back.

Did They just want to get rid of him?

I think they figured they already had too many 3-win OFer in the organization and it would be better to get prospects out of one than nothing.
