  • Hey, they finally won. 4-3 against the Brewers. Albert hit #34 and Reyes had a no-no into the 4th. Edmonds made a nice catch with the bases loaded to help. I'm just glad they broke the streak.

    • So they finally won. Now it comes down to questions, relating to the rotation. When Mulder is finished rehabbing, would that mean Reyes gets sent down, then Wainwright starts? I can see him right now throwing a no-no. He's a young Curt Schilling in the making, and his future I can see is very bright. Anthony Reyes should get some time in the minors before the season's over, not because of people jumping on him saying how bad he is, but to give him a couple games so he can look at a better future. In other words, here's the schedule for the rest of August.

      August 6: Brewers
August 7-10: at Reds (for a four game series)
      August 11-13: at Pirates
      August 15-17: vs. Reds
August 18-20: at Chicago-NL for the Lifelong Rivalry
August 22-24: at Shea Stadium or an encore of the 2000 NLCS, and they've stocked up considerably since last year.
August 25-27: vs. Chicago-NL again (on Saturday, avoid McCarver at all costs. Listen to "Moonman" Mike Shannon instead)
August 29-31: vs. Marlins (another team that stocked up considerably since we last met them)

      • The Cards won again 7-1 against the Brewers. Suppan pitched well and Encarnacion hit a 3-run homerun to boost the offense. Rolen also drove in Pujols with a homerun and Ronnie got an RBI single.

        • I think Reyes is doing fine, and will improve as he gains more MLB experience. I think Weaver needs to step up and show he belongs at the major league level. If he doesn't have it, release him or demote him (if possible?).

          • A blowout 13-1 win against the Reds. They started out by scoring five in the first. Weaver threw 6 innings, and gave up only one run. It's the kind of start that we were looking for out of him. Molina had 4 RBI with a 2B and HR. That's 3 games in a row with a win.

            • 3-10 loss to the Reds. Marquis only went 2.2 innings and raised his ERA to 5.82. We need to have Adam Wainwright start a few games. I'm sick of these continuous poor starts by Marquis.

              • I just hope that Marquis is designated for assignment when Mulder gets back. That's right, designated for assignment. His poor control and his terrible pitch choice makes him a frontrunner for the DFA candidate. What's so special about Marquis?

                • 7-8, Loss to Reds. Edmonds hit a Grand Slam in the first, but Carpenter kept giving up solo shots. We were up 7-6 in the 9th when it happened, AGAIN!!!

                  • I don't know if I can take it! Last night I kept channel surfing to ESPN News to get the ticker tape updates. Last time I check its 7-6, bottom of the 9th, Cards lead. The very next time the score comes around its 8-7 Reds win:FINAL! Izzy blows another! :grouchy

                    • Isringhausen's career is done, and all we can hope today is solid pitching by Reyes and a powerful offense like on Monday.

                      • Aha! My prediction was correct. A 6-1 win over the Reds earns a split, and now the Cards head northeast of Cincinnati to deal with Pittsburgh for three games.

                        • How about Chris Duncan going 2-5 with 2 HR's. I think we finally found a starting Left Fielder.

Hear! Hear! It's time to let the young talent flourish and mature into the great ballplayers they will be. For next season, I think the only free agent-to-be pitcher that the Cards should try to re-sign is Suppan. Forget Mulder and Marquis. Ultimately I see the '07 rotation looking like this: Carp, Reyes, Wainwright, Suppan, and Weaver. I don't think the Cards should take up Edmond's option, but I wouldn't mind if they tried to re-sign him at a cheaper price (as the Yanks did with Bernie Williams). While there are very good CF prospects in the minor leagues, I'm not sure any of them are ready to be the full time CF.

Tonight I'm going to see the baby Birds play the baby 'Stros (State College Spikes v. Tri-City (Albany/Troy, NY) Valley Cats).

                            • 7-1 loss to the Pirates. Suppan gave up 5 in 5. The only good thing that I saw was that Pujols went 4-4. The rest of the team put-together only matched his total.

                              • 3-2, loss to PIT. Weaver gave up an ealy run, and Freddy Sanchez came through for the Pirates. Pujols hit a 2 run shot, but that wasn't enough to beat the Pirates.
