  • Will it be "The Secret Weapon"?

Will Jose Oquendo replace Tony, now that TLR has ended his brilliant managerial career?

I think that might be a good choice.

I doubt it....I would predict a higher profile veteran manager.

There was a guy on ESPN who said he knows for sure that if Oquendo is named manager Pujols will stay. He actually said he had inside information on this but of course you never really know.
"(Shoeless Joe Jackson's fall from grace is one of the real tragedies of baseball. I always thought he was more sinned against than sinning." -- Connie Mack

"I have the ultimate respect for Whitesox fans. They were as miserable as the Cubs and Redsox fans ever were but always had the good decency to keep it to themselves. And when they finally won the World Series, they celebrated without annoying every other fan in the country."--Jim Caple, ESPN (Jan. 12, 2011)

Anybody think Ron Washington will call DeWitt and inform him of his interest? He's been 5 years in Texas. It's probably contract time. Would it be a good idea for the Cards?

No - Washington makes more silly, win-probability defying in-game decisions that TLR...and that is hard.

                  Wash

But he must be a good motivator. Look at the 5-year block.

                  1 2007 55 Texas Rangers AL 162 75 87 .463 4
                  2 2008 56 Texas Rangers AL 162 79 83 .488 2
                  3 2009 57 Texas Rangers AL 162 87 75 .537 2
                  4 2010 58 Texas Rangers AL 162 90 72 .556 1 AL Pennant
                  5 2011 59 Texas Rangers AL 162 96 66 .593 1 AL Pennant
                  5 years

slow, steady increase ... every year.

Maybe...or a vast increase in talent. Or both. impossible to know. Poor win probability expectancy decisions are testable.

I like the guy - just don't know about as the Cards manager.

Yes, it's impossible to prove that the increase wasnt realted to increased talent alone. But I'd rather see increase talent AND the yearly totals/rank going up than down.

Win Expectancy and Win Probability mean given a particular inning, score, and base-out situation, did the manager beat the odds. But, here, I am saying Washington is a good motivator ... which can't be tested by that. If you have basically the same group of guys year-to-year, but they get better somehow ... every year ... you gotta look at the manager at least a little.

Regardless of admiration of Washington, or his ability to do whatever, he isn't leaving Texas.
