If this is true, then I say, "Go with 'The White Rat's' 'Secret Weapon'!" If we can't get Oquendo, I kind of like Joe Maddon. I think Joe managed in the Cards' Minor League system. I know he was here in Peoria at one time.

[Correction: I just checked it: Maddon was with the Angels' system at the time.]

Of course this belief is pure assumption, just a hunch.

Not interested in Washington at all. Do you think Larussa would have pinch hit in Game 1 of ANY World Series with a player who had not played in such a long time like Washington did with German? That in itself does not define a manager, but I don't want him.

That said, if McGwire is named manager, I'd rather have the team color changed to blue, get Sandberg, or plant ivy to be honest.

        Ok, maybe not ivy.

Well, there are probably steroid users that are on the Cubs, are in the organization, or are on the coaching staffs too - so we would be back at square one.

But for the record, he isn't my choice either...

One of his two PH attempts in 2011 was a HR. I think Wash thought he had a "Secret Weapon" of his own.

Not sure what you are getting at... as there are probably users in each organization. Not completely sure of that of course. What I am sure of, is if a player is caught, "doing a McGwire" will not be the next step.

You were insinuating that if the Cards hired McGwire as coach, you might as well be a Cubs fan. The issue with that would be that the Cubs would be just as likely to employ past users as the Cards, making the changeover unnecessary.

Of course I knew you were joking, so I was just messing around too.

No, I'm suggesting that a McGwire hiring for me is as exciting as hiring an all-time great Cub as manager. Not a guaranteed disaster, etc. But there are better choices in general. I'm a StL native, attended 5 different World Series, The Centennial Celebration, Bob Gibson Day, Lou Brock Day, etc No chance I'm going to ever support another team.

You've got that right. Wash won't be coming to St. Louis to be sure. I wonder if he will hold onto his Texas job.

I bet that is the kind of talk that goes on in every locker room before games about the other teams/players. I bet the Cardinal players wouldn't even be upset about it.

Who can't love Mike Matheny? I'm happy with this choice. May he have many years of success.
