Schmidt pitched for World's Champion St.Louis Cardinals teams in his first two major leagues years - 1944 & 1946. (He missed the 1945 season due to military service at the end of World War Two.) He had a scoreless 3.1 innings relief stint in the 1944 World Series. Schmidt played only three major leagues seasons (1944, 1946-47 - Cardinals, 1947 - Phillies, 1947 - Cubs). He was 13-11 lifetime in the majors and was 140-134 in 13 minor league seasons.
