  • Well, we have this thing called Win Expectancy now which based on hundreds of thousands of precious baseball events can give you the...

    Oh forget it.

    Here is some good news:

    1. The Cards are tied for 3rd in the NL in Sac. Flies, actually.

    2. In the past 22 playoff rounds, the Cards are 0-5 vs. the Red Sox and Giants and an almost hard-to-fathom 15-2 vs. everybody else. And the Red Sox and Giants are going to be watching the postseason this year. Not that I think it actually increases our chances...but it sure is fun to watch them miss the playoffs.

    • 162 game season means that you're not going to have it every game and this is one of those games in which the Cards don't have it. Hope they have it in the next one.

      • Yep, every once in a while, any team can get shut down by a JA Happ. Man that sucks.

        • Nice bounce back today, and great effort by Garcia! Matt Carpenter with 21 home runs. Does he look like a guy to keep hitting home runs in the future, or is he just getting lucky with his hard liners going out this year? Sometimes, it is hard for me to tell with Cardinal batters.

I haven't looked at his HR/FB rates vs. his career rates. My guess is that he is getting lucky. A lot if his usually doubles are just squeaking out this year. I think 15 is a reasonable expectation. Of course that is fine when you get on base 37% of the time and wack 40 doubles per season too. Talk about a diamond in the rough.

            • Eight games into a homestand, and the Cards pitching has given up 40 runs.

              • What an awesome season when the first really bad stretch of pitching doesn't come until Sept. It happens. Esp vs. the Pirates. Every single weakly hit ball they hit in those two losses found holes.

Yeah, we all knew this was coming. It was amazing back in June or whenever we lost Waino and the staff ran off that incredible run of starts with 6-8 IP and 3 or fewer runs allowed. It seemed like we could toss anyone out on the mound and he would magically look like Mort Cooper or John Tudor. It just sucks that it has to happen at the hands of our division rivals. Let the Indians, Marlins, or Padres pound us up a bit. Not these jokers, for the love of Pete.

They better, or it'll be a short October.

That's the problem with resting guys at this point in the season. Can throw off their rhythm.

                          • Cards' back-up catcher Cody Stanley was suspended 80 games after testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance. It's his second suspension (he also tested positive in 2012) and isn't eligible to return until mid-season next year.

I thought Cruz was our backup catcher? Never heard of this Cody Stanley before. Is he related to Mike Stanley? That would be cool, otherwise, no news here.

                              • Why is it that when the Cards play the Reds, Hamilton never hits the ball out of the infield but is always on third base with nobody out, Chapman always strikes out the side, but the Reds can't beat anybody else?

Edit an hour later: Well, guess what, folks. They walk Hamilton leading off, but miraculously keep him from scoring. So now, for only the second inning in the past 12 games, the Cards will come to bat with the lead in the game.

Since Heyward grounded out to end the 6th last night, until Cruz poppoed out in the second today, every Cardinal batter to be retired has struck out, through four full innings. That's 11 strikeouts in 4 innings, plus a caught stealing.
