    • So far, I have no problem with Reynolds as the regular first baseman, maybe for the rest of the season. The hole it leaves is Infield Utility. You can no longer use Reynolds at third and Carpenter at second, leaving Kozma period. To me, the best thing to do is to shop around for a good solid utility infielder, cheap, to replace Adams. I expect to see Moloina spelling Reynolds at first every once in a while. I bet Holliday would be no more of a liability there than he is in LF -- he used to be a 3B, his first 3 years in the minors in A-ball. I haven't looked at who's available, but I miss Descalso. he's a lot more valuable than Kozma, in my book.

With Jay back, the Cards have the best 5-man outfield depth in baseball, they're fine there.

      • Just in case you ever wondered, there are eleven pitchers currently pitching for other teams, who were with the Cardinals in the past two years. They have a combined record in 2015 elsewhere of 19-13, with an ERA of 3.78.

Miller, Kelly, Masterson, Nesiek, Motte, Freeman, Mujica, Salas, Rzepczynski,, Axford, Blazek.

Which is a run higher per game than the current team. Take out Miller, and the rest of them have a well- below league average aggregate ERA.

Ep. Kelly and that 6.3 ERA. About to join Allen Craig in DFA land. What a steal that one was

Thankfully, they have all-star contenders at 3B, SS, 2B, and C. That eases the blow a little bit. But yeah, Reynolds at 1B is not a great long-term solution.

            • You know, there isn't a single player in the Cardinal lineup that I would trade even up for anybody else in baseball (assuming reasonable trade value, not talking about Reynolds/Adams for Adrian Gonzales or anything like that). I'm happy with the players they've got at every position, and I think of them all as "Cardinal Way" players. It's been a long time since I've thought of the team that way. They might have to go and get Ryan Howard, but I don't see him as a Cardinal Way player, and as I said before, I'd rather see Reynolds play out the season and beef up the bench.

Of the 45,000 people in the building last night, 44,999 knew that Wacha had hit the wall. Guess who didn't? But it didn't matter, the Cards never scored another run anyway. Every inning after that, they either struck out twice or hit into a double play.

I think once The Dodgers tied it...MM ket Wacha in to get the W. He isn't alone in such stupidity, but it is stupid.

                • Martinez struck out 9 after walking in a run. I wonder if that is a MLB record?

I think Reynolds has to be in the conversation about the Gold Glove at 1B. It currently belongs to the guy who stood and looked at the ball while the tying run was crossing the plate and the batter heading to firts..

                  • The pitching on this team is bordering on absurd. I mean, it is not sustainable at this level...but holy cow.

                    • They've held the opponent to 3 runs or less in 9 of the last 12 games, and 5 or less in all 12. In 14 of the lat 20, holding at 3 or less. Opponents have not gone over 5 in the last 20 games. and over 3 only six times in the last 20..

                      • Been on the road the past couple days, but I did catch that come-from-behind win the other night vs the Dodgers. Lynn getting those 3 big outs on 4 pitches when it looked like the Dodgers were about to have a nice inning was near magic. What a team.

                        • What's happened to Carpenter. Since being rested for those four games, he is batting only .250, with 30 Ks in 27 games. Will he be the next to be lost for the season?

                            Don't be silly.

Lance Lynn will be the next to miss the season.

I was going to joke and say it will be Holliday, but I don't even want to temp fate by joking like that.

                              • In the three games in Colorado, the Cardinals finally broke up a no-hitter their first time through the batting order -- by pitcher Carlos Martinez. Befofe that, they got their first hits in the fourth and fifth innings. All you have to do in Coors Field to score runs is to put the ball in play, but they can't even do that.

Arenado and Tulowitzki, during the month of June, are two RBIs behind the whole Cardinals team.

Did anyone notice the oddity on last night's ame -- a bckdoor team picture of the Rockies starting lineup would have four "little letters" on the backs of the uniforms of De La ROSA, McKENRY and LeMAHIEU. In at lest one game last year, the Mets had three players in the lineup at one time whose legally-spelled surnames begin with a lower-case "d" -- d"Arnaud, de Grom and den Dekker.

When Grichuk struck out five times, he followed with two straight games of a double and a triple. Then, when Carpenter struck out four times, he followed with the next game's first RBI. Maybe they're striking out a lot on purpose, thinking it will make their ship come in tomorrow, like those Cargo Cult guys building an airplane in the jungle.

The Rockies have a better WL pct (10-5) in games that Descalso has started, than the Cardinals have in games without him.
