  • Three would-be WS figures together

In 1931, the Cardinals had a Class C Western Association farm team in Springfield,Missouri, the Red Wings. Three teammates there would not have known this, but they would make their mark in Cardinal World Series later on. .

Paul Dean was on the team, his first stint on his way to he big leagues, where he would win two games in the 1934 World Series victory over Detroit.

Eddie Dyer was the manager, and pitched a few games, after his so-so career of several years with the Cards. In 1946, Dyer would be the manager of the Cardinal club that beat the Red Sox in the Series.

And Johnny Keane was the shortstop. He never made it to the big time as a player, but in 1964, he was the manager who led the Cardinals to a Series win over the Yankees.
