  • Nationals acquire Howie Kendrick

The Nationals deal single A starting pitcher McKenzie Mills and international bonus money to the Philles for LF Kendrick. Kendrick is hitting .340 in 39 games as he has been hampered by injuries this season. Currently, Kendrick is day to day with a bruised left hand after getting hit by a pitch. The 11 year veteran has played the majority of his career at 2B, but has become a utility player over the last couple of seasons.

For a team pulling out the stops to reach the World Series, this isn't a bad deal. The Nationals gain depth at a depleted left field position for a lower level prospect, provided Kendrick gets healthy. Except for SS, Kendrick can play all infield positions, giving Rendon and Murphy some needed days off.
