  • Are any Expos still on the Nats roster?

Meaning: Are there any players currently with the Nationals who were also on the Expos when they moved? If so, who are they; if not, when did the last Expo leave?

There have been a grand total of 31 players who have worn the uniforms of both the Montreal Expos and the Washington Nationals.

The last two, who played for Washington in the 2011 season, were Matt Stairs and Livan Hernandez.

Stairs was an Expo in 1992 and 1993, was picked up as a free agent in 2011 but released in August.

Livan Hernandez was with the Expos in 2003 & 2004 and last played for the Nationals from 2009 through 2011. He became a free agent in October of last year, the Astros picked him up in January. No idea how he's faring in spring training with Houston.
"For the Washington Senators, the worst time of the year is the baseball season." Roger Kahn

"People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring." Rogers Hornsby.

I think the only players that were in the Expos' minor league system still with the Nats are Bernadina and Desmond. I got Ian's autograph before a ST game in '05, when he was destined to be the "next A-Rod" at 19.

I should have been more specific. Let me rephrase:

        - After the 2004 season ended, did the Expos lineup remain unchanged when it subsequently became the 2005 Nationals?

        - Regarding those players who DID remain with the team when it made the move: who was the last player from the 2004 Expos/2005 Nats lineup to leave? (Livan Hernandez was on that team but he subsequently left and then came back later. So I'm not sure if he counts, technically.)

The main changes to the everyday lineup were the addition of Vinny Castilla at 3B, Christian Guzman at SS, and Jose Guillen in RF. I was surprised when I looked it up, but the last player from the '04 roster (not counting Livan) was Nick Johnson.

Baseball Prospectus has an article on the remaining former Expos in the major leagues:
