  • Nationals trade Yunel Escobar

The Nats shipped off shortstop Yunel Escobar for a couple pitching prospects. Last year, Escobar had an All-Star quality campaign, hitting .314 with nine home runs and 56 RBI in 139 games. The two guys the Nats get in return are Trevor Gott, who had a 3.02 ERA in 48 relief appearances for the Angels last year, and Michael Brady, who I guess isn't much of a prospect as he is 28 years old and spent 2015 in Double-A. But that's not to say he can't do well ... he's had some really great years in the minor leagues.

The Angels have added infielder Yunel Escobar in a trade with the Nationals, reports CBS Sports MLB Insider Jon Heyman. Heyman says righty reliever Trevor Gott and an unknown minor leaguer are heading to Washington in the trade.

Escobar, 33, hit .314/.375/.415 (113 OPS+) with 25 doubles and nine home runs for the Nats in 2015. He played third base exclusively after spending the previous seven years of his career as a shortstop. Escobar is a career .281/.350/.385 (100 OPS+) hitter and a slick fielder.
