I will approach it seriously. The only problem, and the reason many are not responding, is that it is sort of obvious:

1st- Hodges....Hall worthy no, best Brook yes
      2nd- Jackie... obvious
3rd- Cox?...no good choices...Mets can't find one either, it must be in the water
      Short- The Captain......Duh
      OF- Snider, Furillo, Wheat
Pitchers- Drysdale, Newk, Ersk and Fat Freddy
      C- Campy

      Skip- Alston.... Steady, Torre-like

Cox would be an excellent choice on any team. Billy Cox was a terrific player. We have pointed out and extolled his virtues many times.

I want to replace Fat Freddy with Van Lingle Mungo. Fitzsimmons only had one good Dodger year. Please reflect this change when we battle the Martians in one series to settle it all.

1B- Gil Hodges HOF worthy but not there
2B- Jackie Robinson- fast, all around good player, played 10 more years, he'd have 3,000 hits easy
3B- Billy Cox - Not a lot of great third basemen. But he was pretty good.
SS- Pee Wee- Leader, enough said
            CF- Duke- No Brainer
RF-Furillo- Bazooka for an arm, good bat
LF- Zach Wheat- fantastic player, great bat.
C- Roy Campanella- Great catcher, unbelievable hitter, one of the best catchers ever
            SP- Newcombe, Drysdale, Koufax, Erskine

              Hello all-

I am doing a little bit of research compiling my own "all-time teams". I have to ask, why in the world isn't Dazzy Vance on everyone's rotation? I thought maybe it was because he was on the Brooklyn "Robins", not the "Dodgers" (even though it is the same franchise), but Zack Wheat is on here.

Now, this would be my all-time Dodgers team, both LA and Brooklyn:

              C: Piazza
              1B: Hodges
              2B: J-Rob
              SS: Pee Wee Reese
              3B: Ron Cey
              LF: Zack Wheat
              CF: Duke Snider
              RF: Carl Furillo

              Bench:
C- Campanella (I want to start him, especially because of his 3 MVPs- but then someone will post Piazza's #s as a Dodger and "prove" that my intuition is wrong)
              1B- Dolph Camilli
              2B- Davy Lopes
              SS- Maury Wills
              CF- Willie Davis
RF (but mostly a PH)- Babe Herman

              Rotation:
              Koufax
              Drysdale
              Vance
              Fernando Valenzuela
Don Sutton (mostly because of longevity/ career wins leader)

              Bullpen
              LRP-Newcombe
              Hersheiser
              Burleigh Grimes

              MRP- Steve Howe
              Jim Brewer

              CP- Eric Gagne

              What say you, Dodgers historians?

My starting lineup sounds like a "me too" job but...

                C Roy Camapanella
                1B Gil Hodges
                2B Jackie Robinson
                SS Pee Wee Reese
                3B Billy Cox
                LF Zack Wheat
                CF Duke Snider
                RF Carl Furillo

                Starting Pitchers...

                Dazzy Vance
                Burleigh Grimes
                Don Newcombe
                Carl Erskine

                Relievers...

                Joe Black
                Clem Lebine

You are making a grave error on OUR Forum, Mark!

OUR BROOKLYN DODGERS died on October 9, 1957. That "west coast group" does not belong attached to US in any way, size, shape or form! They are not part of US....and never will be!

So, if you want to know OUR (BROOKLYN DODGERS) all time team, you would first have to restrict your thread to just that "OUR BROOKLYN DODGERS".

                  c.

I'm confused, Mark. I checked your list of names for "All-Time Teams" for The BROOKLYN DODGERS and see several names that I never heard of. I checked and re-checked my BROOKLYN DODGERS archives and, still, I wasn't able to find any of those unrecognizable names. If you want to give us names from other teams, why not Babe Ruth, Ted Williams, Hank Aaron, Stan Musial etc.?

Accoring to a review of Duke Snider's (with Phil Pepe) new book, "Few and Chosen", his all-time team would have Reese, Robinson, Hodges, Campanella, with Vaughn at third, and leaving himself out, an outfield of Furillo, Reiser, and Medwick, with Drysdale and Koufax as his pitchers.

                          Very interesting, strummer!

Was Arky Vaughn really better than Coxy?

As for the outfield, I would tend to agree with him about Reiser, had he not gotten hurt, which deprived him of being one of the best baseball has ever seen.

Is there any mention of relief pitchers?

Arky was primarily a shortstop (85% of his games in the majors). Further, he joined the Dodgers late in his career. When you think of Arky, think Pittsburgh. He was a great hitter, though.
