Just heard Vin Scully doing some kind of promotion for a Jackie Robinson T short night at Chavez Ravine Stadium I think on Tuesday night...

Question...perhaps I am missing something...did Jackie Robinson ever play a game for the Los Angeles National League baseball team...I just checked his record and under club it says his career ended after the 1956 season and the only major league club he played for was Brooklyn....

Any time any club anywhere honors Jackie Robinson is a reason to cheer.

It is also appropriate to acknowledge that it was the good people throughout New York that not only accepted his nation changing action, but also welcomed and embraced him in his brave journey.

The LA franchise cannot honor him enough, nor can the Mets, in the city that made it possible.

Who is denying the existence of the West Coast abomination? We are just trying to figure out what kind of beast it is. It is definitely not the Brooklyn Dodgers; it does not even belong to the same species. If the two were to mate, the result would be sterile and something neither as useful nor as good looking as a mule.

Regarding Jackie Robinson, he never played for the LA team. He played for the UCLA team, and that is as close as he came to playing for the LA team. Let UCLA honor him, but the LA people should keep their paws off. What did Jackie and the LA team have in common? Each was a great thief.

Why use the occasion of the memorialization of Jackie Robinson's achievement for a commentary on your thoughts and beliefs? Are you so devoid of respect for him and his family that you cannot let one day pass without dragging the events scheduled in his memory into your wretched and petulant campaign of hatred? Are you so self absorbed that you think only your anger and hatred matter, regardless of anything else?

Jackie Robinson is an integral part of the franchise history and I expected a much higher level of respect for him and his accomplishments and the events held by ALL major league franchises to honor him.

By the way...the stadium is named DODGER STADIUM. That is a FACT. Or do we need to define the term "fact"?

It starts this way, on April 15, 1947 at Ebbets Field, a landmark of the civil rights movement in this country as much as Selma or Birmingham or Brown vs. Board of Education or Rosa Parks' bus: It starts with Jack Roosevelt Robinson running out to play first base for the Dodgers against the Braves, a lifetime in America before Sen. Barack Obama could very well be rounding third and heading for home.

It starts with Robinson recording the first putout of that Dodger season on a throw across the diamond from Spider Jorgensen, starts with him beating out a bunt in the seventh and finally scoring the run that puts the Dodgers ahead 4-3. And the day, as important as there has ever been in baseball, ends with Robinson and his wife Rachel and their son taking the subway back to the McAlpin Hotel on 34th and 6th. In the morning, mother and son had taken a $5 cab ride to the game over the Manhattan Bridge and into history.

Rachel Robinson, now the First Lady of baseball, remembered that first day back in 1947, on the 50th anniversary of her husband's debut, as she was getting into a limousine, on her way to the ceremonies honoring Jackie Robinson at Shea and all over baseball that night.

Jackie Robinson was never associated with the LA Dodgers. From my reading, Robinson did not evev like the LA area because of his experiences growing up there.

The only Major League franchise that Robinson was associated with died 50 years ago.
