  • Jackie Robinson T Shirt Night at Chavez Ravine Stadium

Just heard Vin Scully doing some kind of promotion for a Jackie Robinson T short night at Chavez Ravine Stadium I think on Tuesday night...

Question...perhaps I am missing something...did Jackie Robinson ever play a game for the Los Angeles National League baseball team...I just checked his record and under club it says his career ended after the 1956 season and the only major league club he played for was Brooklyn....

How dare these imposters pull this garbage...and mlb lets them get away with it...what a crock of you know what.

He never played for the Mets, Red Sox, Yankees, Indians, Blue Jays, etc. but they've all honored him.

Besides, Jackie was a Dodger. As long as they don't put Los Angeles on the front, I'm all for it.

Any time any club anywhere honors Jackie Robinson is a reason to cheer.

It is also appropriate to acknowledge that it was the good people throughout New York that not only accepted his nation changing action, but also welcomed and embraced him in his brave journey.

The LA franchise cannot honor him enough, nor can the Mets, in the city that made it possible.

Let's get this straight...the team playing in Chavez Ravine Stadium can call themselves anything they wish but they are not the Dodgers and have nothing to do with the Dodgers...by the choice of their sick demented owner, the Dodgers ceased to exist on 08 October 1957...that was the end of the history of the Dodgers...nobody forced this sick demented man to turn his back on the home of the franchise but he did....the name Dodges belongs to Brooklyn because of the Trolley Dodgers of the early 20th century...what the team that plays on the left coast is I have no idea....

          Right. Let's.
Isn't this about Jackie Robinson ? That's the subject being commented on.

Those last four words just about sums things up, don't they?

To disagree with something is one thing, but to completely deny it's existence is something completely else.

Complete with his usual awkward syntax and bad grammar, the BBF anti-Brooklyn police has returned. Way to go, Cropp. What a great life you must have, rubbing salt in old wounds whenever possible. Britney Spears thinks you lack class and dignity.

What is your purpose here, anyway? (Note*: A certain level of self-awareness is required in order to provide a relevant answer; therefore, you may be excused from answering the question on the grounds of insufficient intellectual capability)

              * - If you had to look up more than two words in that parenthetical note, please refrain from posting a response in this thread. It can only make you look worse.

Who is denying the existence of the West Coast abomination? We are just trying to figure out what kind of beast it is. It is definitely not the Brooklyn Dodgers; it does not even belong to the same species. If the two were to mate, the result would be sterile and something neither as useful nor as good looking as a mule.

Regarding Jackie Robinson, he never played for the LA team. He played for the UCLA team, and that is as close as he came to playing for the LA team. Let UCLA honor him, but the LA people should keep their paws off. What did Jackie and the LA team have in common? Each was a great thief.

Your assignment, Mr. Cropp, if you choose to respond, is to produce at least one sentence that is error free. That sentence should answer the question, "How many at bats for LA did Jackie Robinson have and how many games for LA did Jackie play?"

Sadly, a thread about a franchise honoring a great man and a great ballplayer gets overshadowed by another group's bitterness and irrational anger. Why use the occasion of the memorialization of Jackie Robinson's achievement for a commentary on your thoughts and beliefs? Are you so devoid of respect for him and his family that you cannot let one day pass without dragging the events scheduled in his memory into your wretched and petulant campaign of hatred? Are you so self absorbed that you think only your anger and hatred matter, regardless of anything else?

Jackie Robinson is an integral part of the franchise history and I expected a much higher level of respect for him and his accomplishments and the events held by ALL major league franchises to honor him.

By the way...the stadium is named DODGER STADIUM. That is a FACT. Or do we need to define the term "fact"?

                    Fact:

                    n.
–noun 1. something that actually exists; reality; truth: Your fears have no basis in fact.
                    2. something known to exist or to have happened: Space travel is now a fact.
                    3. a truth known by actual experience or observation; something known to be true: Scientists gather facts about plant growth.
                    4. something said to be true or supposed to have happened: The facts given by the witness are highly questionable.
                    5. Law. Often, facts. an actual or alleged event or circumstance, as distinguished from its legal effect or consequence. Compare question of fact, question of law.
—Idioms6. after the fact, Law. after the commission of a crime: an accessory after the fact.
                    7. before the fact, Law. prior to the commission of a crime: an accessory before the fact.
                    8. in fact, actually; really; indeed: In fact, it was a wonder that anyone survived.

Hopefully, this isn't too much of a hijack, since it is about the one and only American legend known as JACKIE ROBINSON.

From Mike Lupica, finally a decent article:

Jeff Moss (below) says he would
not be where he is today without
                          the Jackie Robinson scholarship.

                          Jackie Robinson's legacy
It starts this way, on April 15, 1947 at Ebbets Field, a landmark of the civil rights movement in this country as much as Selma or Birmingham or Brown vs. Board of Education or Rosa Parks' bus: It starts with Jack Roosevelt Robinson running out to play first base for the Dodgers against the Braves, a lifetime in America before Sen. Barack Obama could very well be rounding third and heading for home.

It starts with Robinson recording the first putout of that Dodger season on a throw across the diamond from Spider Jorgensen, starts with him beating out a bunt in the seventh and finally scoring the run that puts the Dodgers ahead 4-3. And the day, as important as there has ever been in baseball, ends with Robinson and his wife Rachel and their son taking the subway back to the McAlpin Hotel on 34th and 6th. In the morning, mother and son had taken a $5 cab ride to the game over the Manhattan Bridge and into history.

Rachel Robinson, now the First Lady of baseball, remembered that first day back in 1947, on the 50th anniversary of her husband's debut, as she was getting into a limousine, on her way to the ceremonies honoring Jackie Robinson at Shea and all over baseball that night.

"The mode of transportation will be more elegant this time," she said. "And the trip won't seem as long."

The LA team is not memorializing Jackie. It is using him to attract fans to the Chavez Ravine Stadium. It is using Jackie to make money.
Are you so devoid of respect for him and his family that you cannot let one day pass without dragging the events scheduled in his memory into your wretched and petulant campaign of hatred?
If you want to talk plain English, come down from your pulpit. What the hell made you think that I was "devoid of respect for him and his family"? What a stupid, cheap shot that was. My post expressed a complete lack of respect for the organization that plays baseball in the Ravine. What sick line of reasoning led you to imagine that my contempt for the LA organization was a lack of respect for Jackie Robinson and his family. And wasn't that clever of you to throw in "his family"? Yes, my well known lack of respect for Jackie and his family--Rachel, David, Jackie, Jr., Sharon. What a pathetic, contemptible, outrageous distortion.
Are you so self absorbed that you think only your anger and hatred matter, regardless of anything else?
When you learn how to control words instead of vice versa, then you should write. Your above comment is completely empty and totally meaningless.

Jackie Robinson is an integral part of the franchise history and I expected a much higher level of respect for him and his accomplishments and the events held by ALL major league franchises to honor him.
I expected from you more common sense and less posturing. Point out one word that I have written that reveals a lack of respect for Jackie Robinson and his family. You have opened up your big mouth. Now support your outrageous charges with some evidence. Go ahead, big shot.

Jackie Robinson was never associated with the LA Dodgers. From my reading, Robinson did not evev like the LA area because of his experiences growing up there.

The only Major League franchise that Robinson was associated with died 50 years ago.
