A nice link today about the hiring of The ol' Redhead. It provides a brief but adequate career recap:

Great story--thanks for the link. I read an account in which Red rolled a carton down the screen to Tommy Brown and Leo Durocher ran out of the dugout, grabbed it, and yelled up at Red, "He's too young!" I like this one better, considering how involved Red was in charitable efforts during World War II.

Pat Hughes, the Cubs radio announcer, puts together CD tributes to great baseball announcers and he has done one on Red that has incredible stuff, including the 1935 World Series, Red's first. Some stuff from Brooklyn, but it's Red, and that's what counts. It's at www.baseballvoices.com. And, no, I don't get a cut for promoting it!
