      Few people these days understand the effect that black ballplayers such as Jackie Robinson, Don Newcombe, Roy Campanella and others had not only on baseball but on society. They were vital to the Civil Rights Movement of the 50s and 60s. The same can be said for early latin players such as Roberto Clemente (who had two strikes against him by being black and by speaking with a Puerto Rican accent). These men were true heroes in every way.
