Bronfman also repeated that while he has no intention of seeking money from Montreal taxpayers, that he does need “help” from Mayor Valérie Plante, and will meet with her “in a few weeks.”

“I’m looking forward to meeting her. We all have to be on the same wavelength. … This is a sports team. Everyone has to play their role. We don’t need a cent from the city of Montreal, but we need a little help.”

If Bronfman doesn't need taxpayer money, how will he and his partners finance the construction of the ballpark? And what "help" does he need from the Mayor? If Bronfman and the city secures the financing and finds a site, they need a written guarantee from MLB that Montreal will be awarded an expansion team. Bronfman should also seek the Expos name and records.

25,000 is not bad for an exhibition game when one considers that the Canadiens were playing at home last night. Also, the Cardinals haven't done much the last couple of years and I would imagine some former Expo fans do not have much love for the Blue Jays. If the Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs or Dodgers had come, the attendance reaches 40,000 plus. When those aforementioned teams go on the road, their opponents see attendance spikes as well.

Last night should not deter Montreal baseball fans. I believe Montreal will have another MLB franchise, be it an expansion or an existing team.

An attendance of 25,000+ is expected for both games, which is quite good for games played on week nights.

It's real sad that Vladimir will not be there.

Larry Parrish, Ellis Valentine, Chris Speier, John Wetteland, Darrin Fletcher, Ken Hill, and Jose Vidro will be honored on Monday for their contribution to the popularity of baseball in Montréal. The next day, there will be tributes to Tim Raines and Steve Rogers for their involvement during the 1981 postseason.

Yep, and Vladimir Guerrero will probably be honored as a new member of the Baseball Hall of Fame since he missed being inducted by less than 20 votes on his first attempt earlier this year...
