The Nats do acknowledge their Montreal roots. Recently, Andre Dawson was honored at a Nats game for his HoF induction.

As far as I know, this is the first occasion where the Washington team has acknowledged its Montreal past, so it's a new thing for them.

Of course the article got the date of the Expos birth wrong.

"The Expos came to Washington in 2004 after being in Montreal since 1964."
