Montrealers being anti-American has always been:flow: a myth. Quebecers are actually pretty fond of the US.

American Woman being a famous song (I'm sure a US stadium has played it before, whether the Guess Who or Lenny Kravitz) is a far likelier explanation than some anti-American sentiment.

Well, according to the always reliable wiki, it wasn't necessarily intended to be anti-American. It was just interpreted that way.

It was the first Canadian song to reach #1, so it's a big deal in this country. Or was anyways.

I'm not sure if playing it at an Expos game had any sort of political/anti-american symbolism. I think it was just played because it's a good song.

After all, the team was comprised mostly of US born players and management.

Did your friend get the feeling that the song was played with the express intent to antagonize the opposing team?

Some years back, a co-worker attended a game in Montreal, and claimed the anti-American song "American Woman" was played during a game

He wasn't a stickler for accuracy, and I found it hard to believe. Does anyone who attended a game there recall that song being played
