Hard to believe, but today marks the 65th anniversary of one of the most famous plays in World Series history- Willie Mays's outstanding catch of Vic Wertz's long drive in Game One of the 1954 World Series. That- and Dusty Rhodes's 10th inning pinch-hit home run- was the one-two punch that the favored Indians never recovered from. Ironically, Wertz had four hits that day, but he will forever known for the fish that got away.
