  • "Big Leaguer" movie with Edgar G. Robinson ...

Do you know where I can find this movie? Made in 1953.

I've searched the web & can only find where it says 'out of print'. I saw it on AMC or TCM last year at the beginning of the baseball season.

    Thanx in advance.

It might be easier to remember if you used his real name -- Emmanuel Goldenberg.

Not to be confused, of course, with Leonard Rosenberg. That would be Tony Randall.

I can say unequivocally that Robinson was the greatest Romanian Jewish actor of the last century.

Kirk Douglas has a hell of a name. Is it true that Robinson was born with a cigar in his mouth? In "The Ten Commandments," I kept waiting for him to light up.

"Where is your messiah now ? !" One of the most miscast roles in cinema history.

I thought he said, "Mother of Mary, could this be the end of your messiah?"

No compilation of this sort would be complete absent the classic line uttered (or uddered) by Bernie Schwartz, in a mercifully forgotten, Middle Ages. "knights on horeseback" epic:

Yonder, lies da castle of my fadder".
After 1957, it seemed like we would never laugh again. Of course, we did. Its just that we were never young again.

Schwartz was terrific in "The Defiant Ones," and brilliant in "Some Like It Hot," but that one line from "The Black Shield of Falworth" will surely be his epitaph.

You forgot to mention his stellar performance in "The Bad News Bears Go to Japan". After all, this is a baseball message board.

Lest we forget Spartacus? Great movie, and a fine peformance by Curtis, but that "I love you like I loved my fadder" line always makes me cringe. It almost makes me forget about the wristwatches they're all wearing in the battle scenes.

Oh wow, I just read that both Al Campanis and Carl Hubbell actually appeared in this film. I still can't find where to locate a copy of it, though.
