  • NYG Mourning Armband Event Info Needed

Hello, Can anyone help me ID events that Mourning Armbands were used? I have what I believe is an unusual one that has the letters NYG. I have seen the solid black bands but was hoping to ID the event or events mine may have been used for so I can properly date it. Thanks!

I know that the Giants way back in 1909 donned the symbolic accessory (armbands) following the suicide of League President Harry Pulliam. Maybe it's from way back then?

It could be to commemorate the passing of either Christy Mathewson in 1925, Ross Youngs two years later, or John McGraw in 1934. I'd have to do some digging, but Tony may be onto something in his post.

It's tough for sure knowing exactly when that armband pictured above was worn. It could be any one of the events mentioned. Question is: How exactly do we find out?

The Mourning Band continues to be meaningful as long as the team remains lost.

Doesn't look like it was 1934, the band looks too thick.:
