And a tip of the Hatlo hat-( boy, am I showing my age)- lol- to one of the finest Giants to play at the Polo Grounds, Monte Irvin. Monte celebrates his 93rd birthday today, and is not only one of the few surviving players from the 1951 pennant winners and the 1954 World Champions, but is the oldest living New York Giant. Happy birthday to a great player and a better person.

What a pity he wasn't brought up earlier in his career. I met him when he came to buy a friend's home in So. Orange, N.J. (he was unwittingly part of a "blockbusting" effort by realtors and bankers of that era). He talked about his high school career, particularly in track and field.
