  • Polo Grounds Clean Up 1962-63

I know that through the years there has been quite a bit of controversy over what color the old girl had been painted in her final years. The attached photo of the September 30, 1962 game between the New York Titans and the Denver Broncos should put all of that controversy to bed.

You will note that the walls were painted a light blue/grey. This allowed for the new signage on the outfield walls. The scoreboards which overhung the upper decks in leftfield and rightfield were painted Dark Royal Blue. The seats and poles in the stands remained dark green.

They may as well have kept the old colors considering it was the early Mets and Titans that played there. The Titans could have played in a phone booth since nobody attended their games anyway. The Mets were just bad.
