    Yes, $10,000 was a lot of dough in 1951 so Blattner, an ex-Philie, never got his chance to return to the big leagues.

    Buddy Blattner (1920-2009) is The Brown who could make the Hall Of Fame (as a Ford Frick Award winner as a baseball broadcaster) and he had an interesting & varied career. He is among 10 finalists for the award to be announced in December at the Winter meeings.
